Hoppe's 9

Oil is a pretty broad term .... but its not a solvent ...that makes no sense.

What specifically does your Sig manual say ( I have 4 Sigs / and don't recall anything in there ...).

I used Hoppes for a long time / but have moved on to better solvents like Shooter's Choice ...( shooter's choice will not harm the finish on a stock either ) ... and I wouldn't put Hoppes on a stock ...

I use it on my blued GP100 and that gun still looks nearly brand new, after several years now and many cleanings (after every shoot).

I wish the little tree air fhresheners for cars had one in Hoppe's #9.:D

I have never seen a finish that was damaged by Hoppe's.

OK for blue, but don't use it on the old electroplated nickel. It contains ammonia and if it can get to the copper undercladding, it will destroy it and loosen the nickel.

Have used it on blued guns for years without any problems. Best stuff around to make a house smell good.

My grandfather used it, as did my Dad, and myself...zero problems. Hell, I even carry a boot flask full of Hoppes...never know when ya might need a quick "pick-me-up".:D

Hoppes #9:

No problem with it on any gun finish for me so far and been using it for many years now.

Only difference now, is that I mix Hoppes #9 and Krolls Oil (50/50) together in the same bottle. Awesome for cleaning any metal parts of your gun, (inside and out). Works for me! :)

Hoppe's #9 biggest claim to fame is that you can clean your guns in the house without the "other" getting upset.
It's a "powder solvent," so doesn't REALLY clean much, if you have a problem such as copper or lead. It doesn't have ammonia, and that's the problem.
I've got it in my "kit" as my dad, and grandfather before me...and I'm old.
When I clean, I start with #9, then go to Montana X-treme, or Sweet's 7.62, depending on the problem. NOT IN THE HOUSE!!
Hoppe's #9 doesn't hurt blued finish, but neither does water. I'd not leave either for any period of time. I'll continue to have #9, even after I run out of everything else. SOOO many memories.
Have fun,
Gene
