Homes marked as gun free homes

In the spirit of fairness, I think that whenever one becomes aware of a true gun hater, who would rather submit to criminal intent than to own and carry a firearm, and who wants the rest of us to be similarly disarmed, we should put a "Gun Free Home" sign on their front door. They would surely thank us for helping them spread their philosophy proudly. I would love to have neighbors on both sides of me display such a sign. It would surely make a part of our neighborhood, my part, much less likely to be the target of criminals.

Since it has to start somewhere.....
Might as well start at the top and work down eh?

On a more serious note, the concept of "gun free zones", which defies logic, seems to be stuck in the minds of the anti-gun crowd. Gov. Pat Quinn of IL, in regard to the state having to come up with a concealed carry law by this summer, reiterated his belief that whatever the law it has to prohibit carrying firearms in schools, hospitals, etc, etc. as if putting this in the law will make one bit of difference to someone intent on doing harm. Years ago I lived in a small suburb of Milwaukee that was considering a voter referendum that would have banned all guns within the village. The main proponent of the proposed new law couldn't seem to understand that posting a "gun free" sign on the entire village would be an open invitation to criminals, but when I asked if he would put a "no guns here" sign in the window of his home, he replied that he would not since it clearly would make his home an inviting target for burglars. Despite him being an attorney, he could not understand the illogic of his positions.

Whenever I debate the anti-gun crowd [and it happens fairly often], I often point out that Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, and Columbine were "gun free" zones, too. Then I ask them why they think such foolishness would stop a school shooting here, if it didn't work in those places. I have yet to meet the hoplophobe who can answer that.

To BlueTrain: I have an ADT sign clearly saying my house has a security alarm system; I have an NRA sticker on my front door which probably alerts folks that the owner likely has a gun.

Vito, it means One with an irrational fear of the tools of war. From the Greek "hoplite" I think, which was a class of warrior.

Thanks to MLeake for explaining that for me. Vito, the term "hoplophobe" appeared most often in the writings of Col. Jeff Cooper. As I understand it, he claimed authorship of the term, though there is some debate there. Regardless, I feel it accurately fits those who would disarm us all.

On this other topic, I personally would never put a sticker in my window [or even my car] saying that I have guns. Talk about a "burglar beacon"!

I would agree why advertise to someone looking to steel firearms that you have some. Also if they know you are armed they won't give you a chance to use them.

Agree as well Manta49.

No advertisement either way is my opinion/preference.

Not gun related but a long time motorcycle riding partner of mine had the exterior and interior of his house and garage decorated, looking like some kind of Harley Davidson shrine, along with HD stickers all over his vehicles and had two Harley's stole from his garage.

I guess the rest of us were dummies when we were telling him he was making a mistake but he listened to the LEO that said the same when he came out to make the theft report. Partner dismantled his exterior 'shrine'. :)

Gun free zones work. (In theory) {translated they don't work, and are a far cry from sane}

Everything works in theory, even communism/socialism. But when you get into the real world, better to bet against them, than put your hope in a false premise, with false data, and oh yeah, false statistics to back them up.

I wonder though? If I put up a sign that says gun free zone in front of my house and then it turns out not to be could I face legal problems from home invaders burglars?

I only ask because of the large number of heavy gun control advocates who own and use guns for self defense.

Would you put a sign in your window that said you did have guns?
Nope.
Signs are tacky...

The only sign we have is one that says "Beware of Dog" - and that one only because our insurance agent suggested we put it up.

I have visions of someone entertaining themselves by putting up a "Gun Free Zone" sign at their home while they wait inside on the rocker with their 1911 and sucking down a harmful big gulp. This could replace cable TV.

Letting anyone walking down your street know that you have guns inside is a huge invitation for a break in. Especially now that we have the huge irrational increase in gun prices and ammo shortages someone might try a break in just for the ammo. It's untraceable and worth a lot on any market.

We don't need signs where I live. It is assumed that every house has guns inside. It is a rare house that is unarmed.

My property length is pretty long, a little over 600 feet. There are three houses across the street from my property. The neighbor in the middle has all the answers to the worlds problems, but can't even grow a vegetable garden. She is also a rabid anti-gun nut.

After getting in to another verbal confrontation with her, I put a sign up that said "My neighbor believes in gun control and does not own a gun." A big arrow pointed towards her driveway. It only stayed up for a couple of days before her husband asked me to take it down, which I did. Him and I enjoy talking and he even sneaks over for some target practice once in awhile. "Just don't tell her I have a gun, I'll never hear the end of it."

I saw a similar sign from Florida about the time I did this and thought it was a great idea.

The other sign I saw looked something like this. Mine was not nearly so nice.

nope. Not even in theory. I shudder to think of a world with no guns (or a true gun-free zone). Why? Because i'm not the biggest strongest man on the planet. He'd be the only one with nothing to fear in that scary world.

I prefer to have access to the most efficient tools of war (high-cap semi-auto firearm) because I'm in a wheel chair and need one hell of an unfair advantage over Billy Beefcake if he wants to harm me for my stuff.

Edited to throw in the quote from an unknown source: God created man; Sam Colt made them equal.

Don't ever say, when arguing with an anti, that a world with no guns is ideal but unobtainable (i hear this a lot)... because it's NOT ideal.
