Home Depot (again. . . !)

Nothing at all like that in the two Home Depots near me. I do think that Lowes is much nicer though. I also hate that I have to check out my own items. Bring back the damn cashiers.

I've had ups and downs with both HD and Lowes, but they are the only game in town. Ace hardware is trying superstores, but they are not convenient, well, neither are HD and Lowes, but I can fill up the van in one trip.

Here in FL, I've never seen a no carry sign at either one.

Who notes FL has had Concealed carry for some time and people have gotten used to it.

Here in FL, I've never seen a no carry sign at either one.

I visited the HD in east Orlando (west of Bithlo) and they had a "No Firearms" sign posted. I now shop at the local stores as much as possible. I'd rather give the mom and pops my money, they actually seem to care.

Good news!

I received the following e-mail message today in response to the one I sent last Thursday.

Dear [Seminole],

Thank you for contacting The Home Depot Customer Care.

You are correct. That sign should have been removed. We have contacted
the Management team at the Midtown Memphis Home Depot to have them
remove the sign immediately.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

The Home Depot does not prohibit anyone who is legally permitted to
carry firearms from entering our stores, provided the firearms are
carried in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

If you would like to speak with a Customer Care professional, please
call us at 1-800-553-3199 (USA) or 1-800-668-2266 (Canada). We would
like to provide you a ticket number as a record of your concern. Your

I'll go by in a day or two and see if the sign has been taken down.

As a long-time Florida resident, I never saw a "No Firearms" sign posted in a private business. At any rate, as I mentioned above, the difference is that in Florida, such signs have absolutely no legal repercussions should one choose to ignore them. In Tennessee, carrying in posted locations places one in violation of the law, and can result in revocation of one's CCL and a $500.00 fine.

Partly because of such repercussions, I think it behooves all of us to do everything we can to make sure signs like this one don't proliferate.

Case of a new store mgr. getting all "gung-ho" ;)

It happens, I have a letter from corporate basically saying what the email you received said.

And a contact name should the problem arise again.

It's gonna happen. Anti's are sheeple and sheeple do nothing better than overreact and panic.

You handled it well, and correctly. Congrats!

Another victory for the good guys. You fought a noble fight and won conguatulations. I'm glad they listened to reason... :)

Out of curiosity, Florida law does not recognize "no carry" signage? I.e. I carry into a store with a no-carry sign, accidently expose my gun, get cought, there is no penalty?

I don't believe NY dose either, with the exceptions of goverment buildings, schools and the post office. I've never seen a sign anywhere.

No, signs prohibiting the carry of firearms on private property do not have the force of law in Florida. If you were to get caught the most the owner could do would be to ask you to leave. If you were to refuse to do so he could have you arrested for tresspassing, but that is a different matter.

Of course, since the Florida license is a Concealed Weapon License, you could be in deep legal doo-doo for failing to conceal it if you were to "accidentaly expose your weapon." So, in Florida at least, keep it concealed and don't worry about any such signs on private property. I don't know that I've ever actually seen such a sign on private property in Florida.

If you've not already found it, you need to bookmark www.packing.org--the most invaluable source anywhere on concealed carry, organized by state.
