home defense readyness

I keep my SG chambered with 00 and the safety ON. Buck in the tube-1 and slugs on the side saddle. I think that's pretty ideal. If I did leave it unchambered(which I have in the past when I had other roommates) I would leave the safety OFF. Just what I do, do what makes you comfortable, but FYI, I would NOT leave a shell chambered and the safety off. That's an accident waiting to happen and with a SG, it will be a bad one.

For me, I figure the time it takes to get the pistol out of the safe, I want it ready to rock and roll. Thats the safety for me.

What I wouldn't want to do is leave a gun out where a kid could pick it up and ???? I think most kids could figure out how to put one in the chamber and pull the trigger.

Well, when it's rigged for HD, it's wearing a combo SpeedFeed. (full stock + PG + the four extra rounds is a hard combo to beat) That makes it a lot easier to one-hand it briefly while staying ready, such as closing or locking a door with the other hand. It also, however, means that my thumb is below the gun; hence the safety (Mossberg, safety on top) stays off. Full mag, empty chamber, and if it becomes necessary to "give up my position" by chambering one, the fireworks closely following should sufficiently distract the target to help him forget.
