Home Defense handguns VS "fun" range guns

It's all semantics,,,

Some people can't stand the use of the word "play" when talking about guns.

It is all semantics anyways so who cares what word is used or not used.

I enjoy shooting guns so my practice is as much play as serious effort.

And I don't give one whit if a person says I'm not a serious shooter.

It matters not at all to me and it shouldn't to them either.

I will not change anyone's opinion here, I don't want to.

I just don't understand why people get so irate?

Geez folks,,, we're all on the same side.

I don't play with my table saw either,,,
But when I am in my shop making something whimsical am I not playing?

It's the same with my guns,,,
I do not play with my guns ever,,,
But when I am seriously shooting them I am often playing,,,
Hell people, sometimes I am laughing my @$$ off at the range.

It's all just a semantic argument that has no correct answer.

Why are we getting so hot over it?

Can't we all just get along? :)

.

okay; "serious fun"

Smartest most apt response:
"My guns do double duty. I shoot IDPA and USPSA matches almost every weekend, so any gun that's going to be shot more than once or twice a year has got to be legal for competition. I shoot my daily carry gun in two or three IDPA matches a year, and have carried the gun that I use for USPSA Single Stack. My shotgun sees occasional 3-gun action, as do my AR, Garand, and M1 Carbine. I generally won't trust a gun that hasn't seen match use, as I find out things about the gun that I wouldn't have if I'd shot it only without the pressure/urgency of competition."

Mouthful in that last sentence......

"Guns are for killing" statements makes me remember this guy....

Some years ago, in a social occasion I met an amateur rank fighter. It seemed he was from an Arabian country, and had come across recently.
Anyway, with his considerably poor English, he talked and talked without taking a breath...(which was actually very frustrating) Finally after some serious time, a buddy of mine (who invited this guy) explained that he was actually trying to explain to me how motivated he gets when he climbs into the ring...
I was quite shocked at the time because his exact words were something like..."I kill..in the ring I kill...you know.. I like killing..." etc.
I have fighting buddies (both sportsmen and soldier alike), but I have never heard anything this aggressive from any of them, never...
So, judging by his looks and body language (in addition to his words), I figured, he meant what he said...It was neither a misunderstanding, nor he was simply trying to show off with poor language skills. It was obvious that he is mentally sick.
I kindly said goodbye...left the table and I called my friend to advice him not to see that guy again.
These "guns are for killing only" statements always make me remember this guy...
Kill kill kill..Oh yeahh...:(

My books, movie collection, weapons..they all play a huge role in my life, and I like them.
With some, I can harm other living things badly if the occasion call for it, but they are obviously not for "killing only..."

All the best

There's simply too many people at the range that cannot follow instructions (don't touch the guns while people are downrange. Yes, you. Hey: you! Don't touch the %$#ing guns!).

No kidding. I was at the range maybe 10-15 years ago and was checking targets when a trio of dufus college boys showed up. As I was walking back, they started loading. I very politely informed them that they shouldn't load or really even touch any guns while the range was cold. "uh, yeah, what ever".

bang bang bang, we go to check targets and this time as I'm walking back about 30 yards from the stalls, they start SHOOTING:eek:. I went ballistic, ran back and told them at 100db that if they ever start shooting while I'm down range again, well -- this is a family forum so you'll have to image what I said.

That was the last time I hit the public range. I then made a safe area to shoot up to 100 yds in the back of the property. Had to move 5-600 cu yds of dirt to do it, but the heck with being around morons with guns.

Oh, the "idiot trio's" answer? "Hey dooode, chill out --> we weren't aiming near you." Idiots.

Oh yeah. On topic....

All my guns are either range / hunting guns. Unless someone breaks into the house, then it's a different story. I only keep guns that function flawlessly and store them clean and ready. The .22's have been getting most of the duty recently with teaching the kid to shoot. Thankfully, they are still economical enough to go out and blast away just for the joy of making pop cans full of water explode.

Did they ever make any gun that wasn't a fun gun to take to the range ?? All of mine take their turns at the range, & there are at least six of them also stand duty as home & S.D. or CCW weapons.
They are all fun at the range though !!

"Playing" with my guns involves seeing how well I can shoot at paper targets rather than using them to provide food or for protection. That being said, my FNP9 is quite the range toy, the PF9 however only comes out to stay proficient with it.
