I live in NC where summer days can routinely be 90F+. I used to wear cotton until I came to my senses and switched to artificial fibers, mostly polyester. It's vastly more comfortable for me. As in, Pee Wee Herman vs. Mike Tyson difference.
I also wear the gun directly against me, no clothes in between. This is not an issue with my N82 Tactical holsters; I was just looking for alternatives.
