Hogs

I had a problem with a dog pack and the Animal Control officer loaned me a trap. She was very cooperative because a dog pack will get braver and braver and eventually attack a child.

I don’t know about an unprovoked hog attacking anyone but a big boar can tear up a dog in a moment.

Anyway, I baited the trap and set it. Caught the biggest darn feral tomcat I ever saw (no, it wasn’t a bobcat). I got a shovel to turn over the trap so the gate would open. No way was I going to put my hands on it. That cat was torqued, hissing, growling, and letting me know he was quite displeased.

When the gate opened I learned a cattus domesticus wildicus can run 30mph if it wants to.

Never did catch a dog but the officer called on the persons who owned them and the problem went away.

This will work

No Report, no super sonic crack, no worries over a rifle projectile flying off not hitting the intended target.

My uncle used one of the steel rings that go around round bales of hay and set it up as a trip type trap. He caught 18 pigs at one time. He lived about 80 miles east of Dallas.

good luck

There are break barrel pellet rifles that can hit with more energy than subsonic .22lr rounds. The gamos, the daisy 1000x, a lot more. The daisy will be cheap like 50 bucks.

If you have a slingshot you can convert it to a sling bow. There are slingshots that can be made powerfull enough to penetrate or at least smash the brain of most medium and small game.

There are cheap 30 dollar crossbows that have 90 pound draw weight look at pyramidair and airgundepot.

You can always beat them down with a baseball bat and sling the m14 over your shoulder in case they dont run away, just for personal safety. Heck if you can instigate them to charge you you'd probably be within your legal right to blow their brains out.

Here's what i'd do: Throw a cabbage patch doll or other baby doll into the yard, nobody watching. And shoot the hell out of the pigs because i think they are attacking a baby.

Have you seen these pigs? How big are they? for a big boar you might need a bear trap. Also, many states/areas require a permit for trapping or ban it outright (but I'm not from Texas). Make sure you know what your jepordy is legally and physically, before you take any action you can't take back. I'd have some heavy conversations with hogdogs and with local animal control people to make sure you know what and why you end up doing whatever you do.

The last time I was in Dallas I saw several pigs. Wicked looking critters.

Although I did buy one of ‘em a drink.

Texas state law (local laws may differ) allows the taking of feral hogs by just about any means you can think of... Heck, if claymore mines were legal, you could use them I bet. NVG's and scopes as well as silencers and possibly FA's even... Trapping is legal by state regs without a permit... the only caveat is it may be required to be open top to allow deer, turkey and bobcats to escape unhindered.

I would suggest a gamo extreme hunter, airhog, daewoo ,airforce or a rsw with some practice you should have no problems taking a hog 200lbs or larger with head shots at 30 yards or a little more they come from .17cal all the way to .50cal on youtube you can see them take game as large as bison good luck:)

they are getting bad here, I have a customer near the landfill at I-30 and macarthur, says the pigs wait for the landfill workers to head out at five and the pigs move in and dig up what they've just covered and eat all night. this in the dead center of dfw.

Something about this line made me literally laugh out loud.

As far the the topic in concerned that's crazy. Must be a helpless feeling not being able to really do anything to those hogs.

 At least hogs don't reproduce at a rapid rate

Your not in Cedar Hill are you?

You can drive down hwy 67 at prime time and see sounders of hogs right on the road.

Crossbow would do the trick in city limits.

Having lived in DFW area, used to hear single gunshots fairly frequently. I wouldn't worry about singles so much...

Plus, preventing the discharge a firearm in defense of life and property is definitely not the intention of the city ordinance... It's meant to keep people from target shooting on their 1/5th acre plot of land with five foot side setbacks...

If you feel you must, use a shotgun with buck in it...

Whereabouts in DFW? I lived in South Garland for five years
