Hogs dangerous? Read on...!

No sweat... By saying it wasn't a pay hunt it sounds like what I do with folks. I offer to take a guy along all the time. They don't have to know how. But if they fall back when we are runnin' to the bay we try our bestest to find them;)
It is such a rush I just can't keep it to myself...
I think spctim got to see that...:D

I am a dedicated hog hunter who hunts 12 months of the year. Learned a lot about them. Hogs hate anything that looks like a dog. It is not at all uncommon for bird hunters here to lose dogs to hogs.

Hogs have a strange distress call that will bring other hogs to the rescue. Was sitting in a tree stand watching a bobcat trying to catch 30 pound pig despite the best efforts of the sow. Was about to shoot the bobcat when the sow let out a scream. Less than a minute later a big boar came out of the woods, hit the cat and knocked it 15 feet into the air. The cats chest was totally crushed.

Have been charged several times by hogs, mostly by boars in thickets.

I hunt Oklahoma quite a bit. I want to know who this 187 is so I can stay the hell away from him.

187, you having a bad day or are you like this all the time? Tell us where you are so we can avoid you.

Texas. Hogs in Texas are open game. If I get caught on someones property without permission I can get ticketed for trespassing but not poaching. You cant put all them words in the same sentence.

Feral hogs in Iowa

We have feral hogs here in Iowa not a lot of them but enough that in some areas they are a problem. With the price of corn and beans being what it is due to the phony ethanol gas replacement plan a few hogs in a field can definitly effect a farmers bottom line. There are a few guys that have started hunting hogs with dogs on a full time basis(weekends and days off)and they are welcommed by most of the farmers. It is the same with Coyote hunters most of the livestock producers who have lost stock to songdogs.they don't break fences and the dogs could care less about cattle.I will admit that 187 has a right to close his land but if he would consider his neighbors and the possible damage and disease caused by feral Hogs he would change his mind(but I doubt it)I have never met anyone who has been attacked by a hog but the stories don't convey the damage done as well as Hogdogs picture do.To use a line from Jaws "I think I need a bigger gun".Here in Iowa unless you can prove a dog is harassing or attacking livestock and you kill it you can be charged with destruction of personal propertyELMOUSMC Mgunnerysgt USMC 1965-1992

No joke, hogs will rush you. I shot one in an open field with a 30-30 and he came after me. He wasn't cornered, he was pissed. He took 4 30-30 rounds in the head and shoulder, I only brought 4. I pulled my .38 as he got closer, gave him another 4 in the face (one of which hit him in the eye) before I had to tackle him. I dug that muzzle into his spine and fired TWICE! I jumped off of him, cause I "knew" that killed him. He moved a little as I did, which I figured was nerves. WRONG, he stood up and started towards me AGAIN. I had a bowie knifed with about a 10 inch blade on it. I tackled him again, and I carved that mother good. I didn't stop till he was a PEZ-dispenser. Just so everybody knows, a hog doesn't have to be cornered to come after you.

HOLY CRAP!!!! I wanna go hog huntin!!!! I've never been:(

Just so I don't get blamed for claiming a story as mine... This ain't me. I have never suffered an injury needing medical care and my dogs have sustained less injury than many but only due to less time in the field than many. Where i hunt the hogs tend to have a little less tusk per pound than other areas...
The boys in this story hunt south east louisiana...

Its been a great many years since my one and only hog hunt.
A guy from Sebring Florida took me out with 3 dogs.
This HUMONGUS hog charged me and i emptied a 357 revolver on him. the last two shots while i was running away, screaming like a little girl!
the hog must have bled to death while chasing me clear out to the road.
turns out my hogzilla only weighed 108 lbs gutted!!
Damn, it STILL seems alot bigger than that!!

hey hogdogs, how bout taking me along next time i visit family in st pete?

i agree that hog hunting is dangerous and fun at the same time. would love to try it once. any animal that gets determined enough or plain old pissed off. would charge you and probably not think twice about it.

tplumeri, I ain't real near st. pete but if'n you lemme know when, we can get a hunt together. You will need to plan a night as I am a few hours from there.
