Hogdon HP-38 & Win 231 discontinued.... ?

"In 5 minutes, the Winchester switchboard is about to be overloaded."

Yeah, people can overload it all they want, but they're not working for American Rifleman magazine, which I was at the time.

:)

And that was then and this is now. It is not up to Hodgdon, it is up to the actual maker - General Dynamics. If they are going to phase it out and will not reconsider, then Hodgdon can do nothing about it except find replacements.

So who has bothered to ask either Hodgdons (distributor) or General Dynamics (ATK) ((producer)) if this rumor is true????

Win 231 / HP 38.. Ramshot Zip.... yeah right they're gonna discontinue it due to chemically inconvenient. Better add some more powders to that list due to WHEN they were developed w/ the same processes.

Tin foil hats sold HERE! :p

Well, tin foil hat in hand, I wonder about the slow encroachment on the hobby. Lead supplies are bound to become more expensive and less available. I see this in legislation prohibiting the use of lead shot, lead bullets, in some states, as well as the closing of the last US lead smelter. Now my favorite powders seem to be going away. I'm sure there are economic considerations in these developments. But it makes me say "hmmm?!"

Well, before I put the tin foil hat on, I guess I'll wait and see, and perhaps purchase some more 231 and 2400. I trust these numbers and am not inclined to run around experimenting with new powders at this point in my life, even accepting as I do that they may actually be better.

Heck... I still shoot black powder, which I have come to know and trust. :) I guess I am just an anachronistic throw back to what seems a simpler time.

That particular lead smelter was the last one that processed from ore. There are plenty left that process from recyclables such as car batteries. Older powders will be phased out as equivalent cheaper to manufacture powders become available. That's capitalism! We will adapt as we always have :D

SHR: I DID.....This A.M. HODGDON says BULL SHI_! No truth to rumor of deleting W231. However...It WAS said [that] although GENERAL DYNAMICS would rather produce other powders which are less complicated to produce, [My inference is: Higher profits], W231 will stay in production.

Also; If W231 is not available....TIGHTWAD is almost a near twin in performance and a viable replacement.

WILL.

Will-j:

I almost answered for you. Post #4. This happens a lot. Don't let it get you down.

Whoops!!! My bad! I'm sorry. Post #4 was someone else, Will Terry. Sorry I thought it was you. My apologies. I need to read twice and post LESS.

I see it in the world-wide surge in demand for batteries, especially for cars for China's and India's new middle classes.......that a few billion cars.....

NAW, JOE; I'm the tightwad. Tightgroup is correct. I just had a brain fart, is all. Check my signature...You'll understand.

I think the boys at Hodgdon need to come together and get their Stories straight.

Found this over on THR.
