PPQ was out way before the VP9. 2008(?) as the Polish P99RAD, then renamed PPQ.

HK did do the paddle release first. But having had a P30, USP, and VP9 I can say confidently that Walther's longer paddle is far more usable without any disadvantages.

Is the VP9's trigger very similar to that of the HK P30?
I haven't tried the P30, but the trigger in da/sa pistols are very different in feel when compared to a striker fired pistol. In single action I suspect the P30 trigger is better, but for a trigger pull that always feels the same the VP9 would win.

I was talking about the P30. To me the VP9 is a modified P30 more than ridoff of the PPQ. The P30 added the side panels and sculpting on the sides of the grip. It came out in '06.

They started off with short paddles on the P99, then evolved to the longer paddles. I'm meh on the longer paddles. I don't mind them but I don't mind the shorter paddles either.

I prefer my P-30 paddles over my PPQ's. The HK's are wider and stiffer. The PPQ's are longer and work independently. A combination of the two would be ideal. Until then the HK's for me.

I guess the PPQ, but the bar is set pretty low in plastic striker guns :)

It's kind of like saying Home Depot's hammer is better looking than Lowes'.

But I might leave my wife for a Wilson Combat Beretta 92 or one of the many custom CZ 75s... THAT is art! (I just wouldn't shoot them...they're too purty!)

The Walther P99 was the first polymer pistol with replaceable backstraps (1997), which was then copied by H&K with the P2000 (2001).

Like you said, everyone copies everyone. But I'd add that we benefit from it. The P99 changed the game in regards to grip ergonomics, and the PPQ changed the game in regards to trigger quality. Compare pistols that came out before, to pistols that came out after.

As far as the thread topic, both are ugly. I prefer the PPQ to carry and shoot, but I think the VP9 looks better.
