The HK VP9 and Walther PPQ are both excellent pistols, so this contest is based solely on looks (think of this as a beauty pageant with only two contestants).

Based on looks alone, which one is better looking?

The only polymer gun that even qualifies to enter a beauty contest is the CZ SP-01 Phantom. Looks like a "real" SP-01, a very good looking pistol, IMO.

I never understood why so many polymer guns are butt-ugly. The S&W M&P's are probably the best of the less beautiful polymer guns, and they aren't fantastic looking.

Actually laughing at this topic. These are a couple of visual tragedies. Fine tools and one of the two is my EDC.

It's like asking which car was better looking, the Chevette or the Pontiac T1000? Both were turds.

They are so similar. Industrial espionage during design? No idea which looks better.

Without the rails in front they both might look pretty streamlined.
Of course my latest--the Sig P229--is far from the Walther PPK look, the James Bond gun look. Far.

If your chosen comparison is your Last criterion before making a final decision, which is more enjoyable to shoot and possibly carry?

Probably not.

The PPQ is a variant of the P99 with a different trigger system and revised aesthetics and textures. But the general shape of the overall pistol and grip is the same. The P99 has been on the market for over two decades now.

More likely, when developing the P30, someone at HK likely picked up a P99 and said (in German) something along the lines of "Yeah - that's nice. Let's do that."

True, but then those people at HK added those grip panels to the P99's backstraps. And then likely when developing the PPQ someone said at Walther in German, "These side changes seem interesting too, maybe we should add some sculpting on the sides?" HK also had the paddle type placement for the magazine release before Walther. Everyone borrows from everyone. I had a friend that used to say, "A good programmer borrows code whenever he can."

Guess I'll be the contrarian and vote for the VP9. The PPQ's slide looks chunky and cheap to me, I think in part because of the large empty expanse around the PPQ logo and the cheesy typeface they used for the lettering.

On the topic of the P99, the first-generation run with the proprietary rail is better looking than both the VP9 and PPQ in my opinion.

Is the VP9's trigger very similar to that of the HK P30?

I first handled a rental P30 today (only handled--did not shoot), and really liked it, both DA and SA.
