HK 45C - back from Blown Deadline Cerakote

The turnaround was way faster than I was expecting. They estimated 6 weeks... it look like 2. Communication was excellent throughout the process. I got a call after they received it to have a verbal discussion about what exactly I was looking for, clearing up a few questions they had from the description I sent with the gun. He texted me pics right to my cell along the way. I wanted it a little darker than the first step, so he added a little more darkening then sent another pic.

This was my "sand" 45C that I wanted to have done in the battle worn finish. I'm really happy with how it turned out! Now I don't want to put a rubber Talon grip on like my black 45C though! Maybe I'll throw some sports tape on the grip like Book of Eli style. ;)

Here are a couple of pics. I'm sure I'll be sending something else to him in the future. It would be awesome to have a custom USP 45... but I'm not sending my tan one. Maybe I'll have to pick up a used black version. Hopefully someone has those cheap PD trade-ins again soon.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I'm definitely planning on shooting it. Not going to be a safe queen. Any finish wear should blend in nicely anyways.

I don't think I'll be selling my black one either. Can't wait to get some rounds through it. I was going to go out to the desert and shoot some steel tomorrow, but my wife reminded me that we have to take the dogs at the vet and then we're heading up to Sedona for the day.

Sooo.... maybe I can get to the indoor range on lunch this week.

Looks interesting. Pretty cool!

I have thought of Ceracoating a USPS. How does the texture feel on the polymer? Any different than before?

Less slippery. Like... dry? Hard to describe it, i guess. The factory polymer is slightly slick plasticky feel... this feels a little more matte. I actually like it.

Some company used to sell Colt 1873 reproductions that way, "new" out of the box with a very "used" appearance. I'm just not into a contrived "battle worn" appearance. My take on it then is the same as it is now: If I want a firearm to look used I'll either buy it used or put those used marks on a new gun myself. If I want a battle worn appearance on it, I'll send it to war with someone and hope to get it back-maybe even with some blood spots on it. :eek:

|Ok, thanks for the info.

I have an HK USP fullsize coming my way soon. And, I am thinking I MIGHT get the frame refinished.

Some may think it is crazy - but I saw this picture at HK Pro about 10 years ago - it is of a USP in the HK headquarters vault. I always thought it looked cool with the orange frame. I MIGHT eventually get the frame odne just like this one:

Looks like that's just a poor exposure of the RAL8000 color, which is what my 45C was before the cerakote. In many photos is looks really mustard yellow.

I'll try to show below how much different the same gun can look.

Mush more yellow-ish(not my photo):

Much more tan(my photo):

Yea I always sort of smile at the FDE/sand colors that companies come out with as they don't really match my neck of the woods at all. For that matter multicam sticks out quite a bit here too. I've got surplus flecktarn camo though that honestly disappears in the woods near me.

No, the person who took it and posted it years and years ago stated itw as indeed orange. And, this is back from like 2005 or 06. Not a lot of FDE guns back then anyway. But, it is my understanding that it is indeed orange
