Hit a Baseball?

A MLB max size baseball is almost exactly 3", technically 2.9443" diameter....

You, with your best rifle, (that you OWN or have OWNED), under ideal conditions, from how far could you hit one, say, 9 out of 10 rounds?

I'm not really a long range shooter and my best gun is a stock (except for the sweet 13 ounce Jard trigger) Ruger M77 MkII in .204 Ruger. It will shoot 5 shot 400 yards groups right at 3 inches.... but 9 out of 10, I'm going to say probably 325.

I have a Savage model 10FP, have only had it for two weeks, so am still working on loads for it. Best I have found so far with federal premium match ammo, I think I could do 375-400 yards. I think the rifle is capable of more, but I think thats the farthest I could do with it right now...

9 shots out of 10? Hmmmm. Out to 300, no sweat. Beyond 300 is where it gets kinda hard, having to compensate for drop, wind, thermal mirage, etc. I would have to say 400 yds or so.

My 22-250 will put 10 out of 10 into 3/4" at 100, but that does not necessarily translate into 10 out of 10 into 3" at 400 yds. We used to shoot ground squirrels out to 600-ish, but we knew we would miss quite a few. At 200 yds it was a given they were dead. So let's go with 400 yds.

I have a Savage 10fp-LE1 in 308. i can continuously hit golf balls at 200yds. Thats the furthest I can shoot, since my ranges dont go beyond 200yds.... :(

Me and a couplke buds will on occaison shoot golf balls @ 300 yards with a couplke TAC20's although mine is a Dakota Predator with a 25 1/2" Lilja barrel so it's not your typical factory rig

I don't have anything with optics that could reach that range but my dad has a 220 swift that would 10 out of 10 at 250-300 yds is easy beyond that we would half to try that one out. Using that the weight of a bullet wind drift would play a big factor on a small target like a baseball at that range

My best rifle and load will shoot just a touch over 0.5 MOA when everything is working correctly. So I should be able to consistently hit a 3 inch target at a little less then 600 yards. Unfortunately, the loose nut behind the trigger would bring that down to about 300 yards. :(

My best rifle is an early 90s Remington 700 PDM. 26 inch factory barrel that measures .306 inches in the last 4 inches of the tube. The best load I could make it was shooting just under 1" groups at 200Meters. Doing the math, the rifle is capable of 600Meters, but it would need a better shooter than me behind the trigger which break cleanly at 36 oz. I have access to a 250M range, I'll see what I can do with that.

"under ideal conditions" extends the range quite a bit. I have a 25/06 Savage 110 FP that shoots cloverleaf groups @ 100 yards. Theoretically, that would stay under 3" over 500 yards but in the real world, I'd not like to be the baseball @350-400 yards. I have a 22/250 that will stay on a large coffee cup @ 1/4 mile if the wind is still.

I bet I could Hit it 9 out of 10 at 100 yards with my Remington 03 A3 with its Issue appeture sight. Much farther than that and I wouldnt be able to see it.
Im holding about a 2 inch group with it off hand, with no rest at that range, aiming at the center of a standard target, i cannot make out the lines, I just aim for the center. I plan to hunt deer with it this year, from my stand to the thicket, is 96 yards. I have practiced and am confident that I can make a clean harvest with this rifle at that range.

I only have access to a one hundred yd range,,,:( But if I had a longer range I,d give it a go. Savage 110 .270 win, or my Weatherby Vanguard, 7mm rem mag... They would get it done!;)

With my .308 I can do 200 yards with ease, maybe 300 if I behave and am doing what I should, beyond that forget it but I have to try the next time I take my 300 Wby out.

I'll need a keen eyed spotter too unless I paint the ball orange and hang it on a chartreuse colored back drop. These old peepers don't see tiny things like that in the woods anymore.

Do I get sighters and wind flags? If not I'm not gonna even touch some of the CLAIMS some are making. Basically, 200-250 yards is a chip shot in all but the worst conditions, 300 and more is a lot tougher. Now if we're talking at a range, with bags, sighters and decent weather than yes, I'll hit a baseball 9 outta 10 times as far out as my gun is capable.

I'm not sure I can swing a 10# rifle hard enough to get one out of the infield.
I'm pretty confident that with my 308 that I could hit it at 400 in perfect conditions.
