HIGH CAPACITY MAG BAN-- WHEN?

standard capacity magazines were banned for non military and LEO folks in September of 1994

Okay, .357SIG, I'll show my ignorance and ask what is significant about Sept. 13, 2004? Is that when this idiotic law is due to expire? DAL

In Kalifornia, the Republic of..we have the really...really ban of Hi Cap Mags.

Starting this year, we can't import, sell, buy, give, donate, etc....any..any Hi Cap Mag!!

As long as we FIGHT and don't let htem pass another one, it will expire. We have the winning side, all we have to do is sit and wait. They have to try to sneak another one past us.

Yes, there is a "Sunset" clause that the ban would end in 10 years, and make hi-cap mags legal again. However, I forsee a big fight soon, as the antis will refuse to give up any ground they have made in controlling weapons. Despite all information and studies out there documenting that limiting magazine capacities to 10 rounds has done JACK S**T to reduce crime, they will do what they can to limit RKBA rights.

Considering that Bushmaster's new 10 round magazine is engineeered so that it can not be disassembled for cleaning, i doubt they will let us ever have new standard capacity mags again.

Bushmaster submitted several designs for approval and the one that they let them sell is locked shut!

The law will sunset but there will be a concerted effort to sneak something on the books to resolve the problem.

Don't expect Ruger or the NRA to fight this one for us...

If I am elected President, I will ensure that the ban expires. The chances of my being elected President are exactly the same as the chances of the ban being allowed to expire.

Yeah, the weird thing here in Kali is that you can not even BEQUEATH a gun with a mag over 10 rounds. So if you begin to die, quickly drop the mag so your family can legally catch the gun before it bounces around on the concrete.

I'll have to agree with the negative comments here in regard to the ban expiring and everything returning to pre-1994 status. Since when has Government relinquished control of anything it's gotten its poisonous claws into? Hell, now there's even talk of ordering mags. to contain, IIRC, no more than 7 rounds. It just ain't gonna end, folks. In 10-20 years, these are going to be the good ol' days.

If the Republicans still have Congress by then, and Bush is in the White House, the easiest thing for them to do would be to maintain the status quo, which is exactly what they'll do.

Can you really imagine them making a principled argument on why not to renew/extend the law? Can you see them standing up to the inevitable withering, relentless attacks they'll have to endure just to give the country back hi-cap magazines? If you can, then you have a far greater imagination than I.

Wow, I'd never even considered this. They are basically creating a sunset for a felony. It's like saying it's illegal to kill someone for ten years and then it's okay. But, if you killed somebody before Sep 13, 1994, you won't have to go to jail either. ONLY if you kill them during that ten year period is it bad. What will they think of next?

Well, last gun show I bought two 30 rd. mags for my SKS and a 15 rd. mag for my 1911. There were piles and piles of 30 rd. AK mags, high capacity Glock mags, AK and Thompson drum mags, AR, mini-14 mags . . . There might be a high-cap law, but there sure as hell ain't no high-cap ban.

I have a couple high cap Makarov mags that have been "Klintonated" to ten rounds. Trimming the follower makes them 12 rd. What? Trimming the follower is unlawful? Yeah, and dumping tea in Boston Harbor was unlawful too.

These politicians need to understand that taking guns away from armed patriots is a dangerous game.

Thats what has me worried about those post 1994 Center ar mags i have seen at gunshows for 16 bucks

they are not marked LEO/mil only
just a date

the rumor is that they were intended for overseas sales but are being sold in the US

FELONY BAIT?

chum a few out
and disarm a fellow permanently

If you had a large magazine collection, how hard would it be for an illegal magazine to be added to your collection by someone?

Yes. The law only lasts 10 years from the date it was enacted. After 2004, NO MORE KLINTON MAGS!!! :) :)[/quote]

That assumes Bush is elected....if Gore gets in, it will be renewed.

I remain "guardedly optimistic", as hospitals say. Master Bush will be making this decision only a couple of months before the next election. You know the democrats won't be voting for him, no matter what happens. The fastest way to guarantee himself a single term is to do what his old man did: betray gun owners. I don't think he's smart enough to take a lesson from Daddy's experience, but if his handlers have their heads on straight, there's a chance.
