Welcome from the Great Lake State. I'd also go for a Colt, but if it's between those 2 only, I don't think you'll go wrong. Of the 2 I'd say Springer.;)

Keep in mind that the only way a 9mm is cheaper than a .45 ACP is in range ammo. Premium defense ammo is very close across all calibers.
 
I love the para-ordinance 14.45, but you are probably looking at a standard capacity model right? If you don't want the extra rounds I would go with the Springfield... if I were buying it I would go OD green and wood grips, just like my grandaddy carried as a Ranger in the SoPac 1944-45.
 
welcome cody, i would also go mil-spec if it's about the all might dollar. If not, don't limit yourself to those brands, there a alot more out their. Also, make sure you have practice with guns before buying, not a good idea to learn on your own. Anyway, good luck and keep posting good ques.
