"...but the main issue was its failures to feed properly or chamber completely..." -George Hill

I thought this had been your carry gun for quite some time now...has it had recurring reliability problems?

It was. At first it was exceedingly reliable.
After about a year of shooting it... maybe 2,200 rounds... it started failing me. I tried a new spring of the same weight but that didn't help. New mags helped - or so I thought. Then they failed too. It was either sell it off right then and there - which is the usual response or get it fixed.

George-
I did keep the grips. They were a real nice deep red color, which contrasted nicely with both guns. I have since replaced them with McCormick double diamond rosewood grips.
:)

Yes and No.
The first and main reason I had to send it back was something that developed over a very short period... within only 200 rounds.
I dont know what it was... I tried many a thing to sort it out but I am not a 1911 Pistolsmith. Before this issue arose, the other 2000 rounds had excellent reliablity accept with one specific box of poor quality but cheep so I got it anyways ammo. Normally I DO NOT run crappy ammo through my own guns. Anyways... It was just fine until this failure to chamber thing cropped up.

Don't even try to play that Ultimate Brand Name game with me... I have seen failures of all types in all makes and models. Sig P220s, Glocks, HKs, Rugers (A whole buncha Rugers), and a bunch of other types... all have jammed up, failed to feed or extract or eject or something. Thats just the way it is... It happens.
I probably shot my Springfield a lot more than MOST owners do... A lot of that was rapid fire... some of it fired with a Twin in my other hand too. Normal shooters wont fire 500 rounds a year through the pistol. Even some here on TFL (Even if they boast a much higher volume). This being the case, and me putting a lot higher number of miles on my shooter - I was at a greater chance of finding a fault. In this case it found me. Sending it back is something I decided to do on a whim. Normally I would have replaced it outright. This time, hey... Why not?
It was AFTER I decided to send it back that I heard about (via TFL) Springfield having a batch of slided that got a double heat treatment. A freak thing... Anyways... being a overly careful guy that I am, I asked for the slide to be swapped off with a Carbon Steel one. Hey, I have always wanted a 2-Tone 1911 that has the Dark top over the light frame. I dont know why... Maybe because all my life I have seen those as Custom Built guns. Most of the time nowdays you see a Black frame and a Stainless slide.
Holsterwise this is the right way to do it as holsterwear wont effect the stainless slide and not hurt the finsh of the frame. Where as a Stainless frame wont do anything about the blued slide getting the holsterwear marks. But this is all besides the point. The point is that its always symolized a custom gun to me... a sexier gun. So in my case with this Springfield... in my minds - I am getting back a much finer customized gun.
So, to sum up everthing I have said...

Yes. :D
