Hey Springfield!

George Hill

Staff Alumnus
I go and send my gun in for service and you don't call me or email me? Whats up with that?
I'm missing my gun and you guys don't even call to tell me it arrived safe and sound? No note saying that my baby will be taken care of?

Thats Cold Springfield... very cold.

Springfield Cust Service

George, I hope you have more success than I did. They had my rifle for a month because I had to cock the sights all the way to the side to hit the target. So this warrantee work was done for free, but they forgot to fix the problem, they just re-centered the sights!

Thats one reason that I bought a Kimber instead of their 1911.

Give them a call. They are pretty helpful on the phone. Or e-mail Dave Williams. His e-mail addy is availible on 1911forum.com.

I sent a loaded 1911 back to them 3 times because the gun wouldnt extract properly. They never got it fixed, and I got rid of the gun and bought a Kimber.

Springfield's service on my 1911A1 was excellent. I returned it because it was shooting low. Springfield replaced the front sight, paid shipping both ways, and had the pistol back to me in ten days. Best of all, now it is shooting to point of aim.

Still... no word from them.
Now, sure they were really nice on the phone. I could hear them smiling. But it seems to have stopped there.

I have heard several others say that Springfield's service was the best and that there was no problems. They had the guns returned very quickly and well, Larry's came back just blessed. twice as smooth as mine was.

Yeah, I made a different kind of request with asking for a different slide and all - but the main issue was its failures to feed propperly or chamber completely. I expect this to be fixed 100% with out any issue... as for the other request - its up to them to fulfill it or not. Its also up to them if they want to keep a customer that is responsibe directly for over a dozen Springfield 1911A1 purchases. I am not saying I am special for any Admin status or anything like that - but I am just a customer who liked the product and basically sold a bunch of others. Loyalty is a Rare thing - and I have shown it. I am not seeing much in return for my loyalty.

Yeah, I should give them a call... but then again... I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO GIVE THEM A CALL!

I understand that Springfield is extremely busy with military contracts as a result of the attack on the trade center. I have called the custom shop several times in the past few days and they have been nice but swamped.
Good luck, I hope they can make you satisfied.

>What is Springfield contracted to supply to the military? Not doubting just curious.<

I think he means they have a contract to supply law-enforcement agencies. I don't think they have any military contracts, but I may be wrong...

Sam

Hey, I got word from Springfield just now.
They are going to tune up the gun - And swap the slide!
Thats great...
We will just have to see how long it takes from this point on.

For military possibilities there were rumors going around that some special operations groups were very interested in the Operator model with the full length dust cover and weaver rail. But that is just what I've heard over the net, no real info. They do have the FBI SWAT contract though, and I bet that one might be kind of busy.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Springfield did a reliability package on my gun and now it will feed and extract just about any misshappen beast of a cartridge providing that it is anywhere around .45 specs. :p

Good luck George. And by the way, George is responsible for selling lots of Springfields. I didn't want one until I shot his. And two of my friends have purchased Springfields after shooting mine. One of them now works at a gunstore and has sold lots of Springfields, because he personally prefers them. Go figure.

LOL... Yeah, I figure I have sold about 14 of them plus one more this morning. After I told him Springfield agreed to swapping off the slide, he went to the shop and purchased one. (Blued) I just got off the phone with him a minute ago... he called via cell from the shop.

I hope this slide has a dovetailed front sight post... Because I am going to have no choice but to put some Ashleys on this one.

Man - I miss my TRP. It was one FINE handgun. Probably easily the finest handgun I have ever owned next to an HK P7 that I had for a short period of time. I dont even miss the P7. Funky little thing that it was... the TRP was just all together different... Makes other 1911s feel just kinda "off".

You know... I just might take this one have it done full house... Get the Ashleys, a trigger job, a Magwell, and have the front strap 25lpi checkered. Hmmm... Then I'ld have to get some serious grips for it. I'm thinking maybe some black double diamond checkered Micartas for the looks... or maybe Mad Dog's super combat tactical ninja grips. Hmmm. We'll have to see after it comes back.

Right after 9/11 there was a news article I saw which mentioned that there were emergency appropriations to the FBI and other Feds for extra equipment.

So I'm guessing that some of that equipment money is going towards buying weapons.

Maybe someone realized that the .45 is the best manstopper and a US made 1911 is the best platform.;) Of course I would personally skip the springfield and go with a Colt or a Kimber. YMMV

This may be why springfield is now so busy.

I bought two Springfields, one in stainless and one Parkerized. I got them at the same time at the same store the s/n are only a couple hundred apart. The grips on both were real nice when I got them, then turned black, all in the course of about two months. I emailed and called, all I received was grief! No one at SA seems to give a crap, the guns work great but there service sucks!

You kept the factory grips?
Nobody keeps the factory grips... This is one of the reasons that I got a 1911 and traded off the HK. You can't put custom grips on an HK USP!

I sent my '99 Parkerized Loaded model back to Springfield in late July because the front sight shot loose after about 300 rounds and the frame was wearing on the side of the slide spring tunnel.

I asked them, over the phone, to replace the front sight with a dovetail sight, refit the slide and give the whole thing a light carry bevel job (and refinish obviously). Well, they had it for 6 weeks (out of an estimated 5) and it took two weeks in shipping it back to me. Unfortunately for me, and the whole Country as it turned out, they gave it to FedEx on Sept. 10.

While all of the email or phone communications with Springfield were initiated by me, Deb Else at Customer Service could not have been nicer or more helpful. She answered every one of my emails in no more than one day.

Oh, and when the pistol got back, they had installed the dovetail front sight, blended beautifully into the radius of the slide top; installed a new Novak rear sight; refit the slide; put, IMHO, a perfect carry bevel on every edge that wasn't originally designed to have a large radius. By that I mean every edge is just broken with a perfectly consistent angle, the flat of which is just under 1mm - this included the barrel bushing, the edges of the hammer and the bottom of the grip frame.

I've got no complaints.
