Heston and Brady debate on Field & Stream

Um, since when exactly did guns fired from the hip become more deadly?

Damn, I gotta remember that next time I go pheasant hunting. From the hip! That'll be my battle cry, lol.

The Bill of Rights is a document of brilliance, a document of wisdom, and it is the ultimate law, spoken or not, for the very concept of a society that holds liberty above the desire for ever greater power. -Me

CW,

To understand the art of compromise as it relates to the gun control issue, one must simply add up those compromises by the pro gun faction and see what they have given up/to the anti gun forces.

Then add up the compromises that the anti gun faction has given up/to the pro gun forces.

Our compromises are legend. Theirs are non-existent.

They have never, never given up a single thing to us. They have always demanded more and more from us.

Does snyone out there think for even a single moment that if we compromised on trigger locks that they would exempt us from civil liability if our trigger locked firearm were to be stolen and the lock removed by force?

Does anyone out there think for even a single moment that the compromise on trigger locks by manufacturers would exempt them from civil libility?

Does anyone out there think for even a single moment that if we compromised on all of the demands of the MMM that they would agree to demand no further restrictions?

THEY HAVE GIVEN NOTHING IN THIS DEBATE AND THEY HAVE TAKEN EVERYTHING THEY POSSIBLY CAN.

Gun Control: The proposition that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own panty hose, is more acceptable than allowing that same woman to defend herself with a firearm.

LMAO Dangus! Yeah I've decided that for deer hunting this year I'm gonna shoot the same way. My 30-06 has a scope on it too so it will be even more accurate. I think I'll go for a head shot. What a bunch of idiots. You would think that for people who are so involved with something that they would try to get some idea of what they are talking about. But since emotions are better than brains I guess there is no need.

i was thinking of adding a 90 degree periscope to my aimpoint so i could use my red dot while i was spraying from the hip.

does this sound familiar?

quote:
10. BANNING ALL MILITARY STYLE FIREARMS
The pending national ban on all Assault Weapons, based on a point system
can be expanded to eventually cover any firearm with a remotely military
appearance. We feel that this aggressive appearance appeals to the type of
dangerous individuals who are a definite threat to public safety. We hope
that this point system can eventually be expanded to high powered airguns
and "paint ball" weapons, which can inflict great damage, and with a little
effort can be converted to real guns[/quote]

I think that something for us to remember is that at some point in time, we were all beginners in the whole gun-control debate. At first, we probably didn't even think of it, but then as we became more and more educated, we saw not only the immediate picture, but the repercussions for the future. Our opinions slowly changed as we saw the facts and the possible future. We should feel free to express our opinions, because only then will we get a chance to discover the opinions of others. We don't get a chance to convert someone unless we know what their way of thinking is. Just a few random thoughts...

Agreed country boy.
We werent trying to bash Christina and I do apologize that I worded my comments in such a way as to be directed toward her.
I think I can speak for all of us when I say
just about all the emotion we show here is directed towrd the restrictions that have been placed on us and those that think more
are 'common sense gun legislation'.
Like dare I say Wayne Lapierre.

Jeff I love your comment.

Thanks everyone, I am learning a lot. I see what you mean. I always had a thought in the back of my head about the gov wanting to register guns. Well, I thought thats what they were doing when they did the background checks. My husband and I just bought an AR15 and we are going to pick it up on Saturday in Tyler. (We had to put money down, and pay the rest at the gun show there) And my husband asked him if the checks would be complete by then. If the're not by the time I get down there, I am going to have a FIT.

Christina, in a "perfect" world, I wouldn't object to background checks. But we don't live in a perfect world, which is why the Second Amendment was penned. People more visionary than any on this board realized that somewhere down the line some group would try to disarm the citizenry for their own good. And it's happening. Years ago I, like you, thought that what was going on was "reasonable." But, then came the next proposal. And the next. It soon became clear that what the anti's had in mind was not crime control but control over the guns of the lawful. Every time we object to some proposed law that looks "reasonable" we're called fanatics. But, if you look at how much we've given up in the last 32 years, there's no way we can be seen as fanatical. Imagine if any other group--car owners, golfers, boaters or even (gasp!) some ethnic group--were incrementally harrassed until it reached the point where they were required to be fingerprinted, have their lives checked out by the government, have their respective possessions increasingly regulated or banned by the government, and be demonized and caricatured by the press. No group would stand for it. Blacks would burn down every city in this country. The auto industry would be bankrupt. And golfers would...well, what do golfers do, anyway?

The long and short of it is that every supposedly modest proposal, when added to all the others passed since 1968, amounts to a huge deprivation of our rights as enumerated under the Constitution. And that's not even getting into the subject of natural or God-given rights. At some point, everyone reaches the point where enough is enough. For many gun owners, we're at that point or past it.
