O.K. ladies....... This is how it's going down! We're all gonna vote for George Dubya. Why?........Because he's the best man for the job!...............Because he's better than Gore!............Because he's a Conservative and will protect our rights!...........Because he wears flannel shirts and jeans!!......Doesn't really matter, cause he's OUR GUY!!
So guess what??..............HE WINS!!!!! 8^)

Now we can all go around and thump our breasts and proclaim ............. "OUR RIGHTS ARE PROTECTED!" Our Savior has been delivered un to us!! The Anti's are DOOMED!

SO......................here we are reading the paper one morning. And lo and behold on page 35 (just below the Obituaries) there's an article about how the President just signed in to law a compromise bill allowing a seven day waiting period for Gun Show purchases. WHAT!!!....... How could that be. After all,... he's OUR GUY! He is supposed to PROTECT us from the EVIL ANTI'S.............That son-of-a-b@$#h, ..........I'm voting Libertarian next time FOR SURE!!!

So..............pray tell, how would Frenchy know that something like this could possibly happen???
Because.................................

BECAUSE WE DO IT EVERY DAMN FOUR YEARS........

Vote Libertarian and prove me wrong!.......................

OR,

We piss away at a chance to slow down the losses, we really dont know who he will appt., ....and with primal rage we pull the Liberformer lever and elect gore--just like perot helped clinton.

If we elect The Savoiour of the USA, Mr. Harry Browne, what is it he's going to do by himself?.....you must think the Democrats or republicans are going to help him..lol...

One morning America wakes and lo and behold we are allowing no border restrictions, and we are flooded even more then we are now with immigrants, (I dont mind legal immigration). And on the same page is DRUGS are now legal.... and the people who voted for their second amendment rights wonder what happened, as our country starts the slide similar to (were was it holland?), and every druggie in the world comes here....yeah that's what we want,,,,in order to keep our 2nd amendment rights....

Except for the 2nd amendment I'm all most to the point that I think Libertarians are really just liberals who like guns....lol...
----all hail emperor Browne...lol...fubsy.

Opening the border and legalizing drugs would be a disaster for this country if we don't first get rid of the welfare programs.

It would be difficult to survive here if public housing and free health care weren't available to these people. The lazy would starve, and the stupid druggies would overdose themselves into oblivion.

I view the borders as a national security issue, and wonder how the Libertarians cannot view it as such. Of course, the way that the borders are currently maintained, I don't see how they are "closed."

Well, since the LP advocates dragging the welfate state out behind the barn and shooting it in the effin' head, we're covered on all bases. :)

I really don't understand all the fuss about an open-border policy, particularly if it accompanies the end of welfare, SS, and the income tax. If you want to come to the states and pick lettuce for four bucks an hour, it's not hurting me any.

On the other hand, I'd have no problem with a, *ahem*, practical citizenship test for those who wish to vote or run for office. ;)

Later,
Chris

It seems that there is a whole new batch of either Gore or Libertarian operatives over here again.

There are a lot of people on this forum who would like to vote Libertarian this year for president, but who just can't do it because the stakes are just to high. Our silence on this subject in the threads of this nature should be in no way interpreted as passive agreement with the vote for Browne arguments.

I vehemently oppose anyone who will not vote for Bush this year, but I will not go around this Mulberry bush anymore. This subject was talked to death months ago.

.....and if he does sell us down the river.......? What then!

Frenchy,

Lets make the assumption that Harry Browne gets elected, the house goes to the democrats and the republicans manage to retain the senate. So you have a guy who has no support from the other parties of govt, no party support, because he is the lone Libertarian in national office. So we have a guy who is all alone trying to single handedly stop both out of control parties. Now what can he do? He cant propose legislation, he cant ask his party to propose legislation, cause he dosent have one at the National level. All he can do is veto--if you think for a split second that he wont be given legislation that will encourage his veto in order to trash him in the press and through them the average citizen, your dreaming. So he shuts down govt., cause he cant get what he wants (personally, it wouldnt bother me to much), but the press will eat him alive, and so will the american people as educated by the american press. The next time a libertarian runs for a national office, people will be reminded of browne's failure and the animosity generated by the press about HIS leadership INability and you will be further behind the 8-ball.

Everyone wants it now......We talk of sacrafices that the framers of the constitution made to these United States...Yet we the microwave americans dont have the desire to sacrafice---which is what putting up with some politicians are. And please dont come off with the "this cold dead hands crap"---most people today wont get off their duff to join anything.
I poke fun at ya'll cause your party has done nothing as a national party, your one success is Ron Paul, who ran as a republican to get elected.

Its a long fight we are in for...we have to regain the ability to educate the children, because that is our future, without losing too much of our positon politically (inspite of what some think Im not talking republican/democrat--Im talking american), We need to find/force a way to break the strangle hold on information that the traditional media holds....it might be to late for the generations beyond 40 years of age, they are to propagandized and most are susceptable to the need for the socialist form of govt we are becoming... we might have to hold on until they die as a voting block....it sucks dosent it.......Im not so much for party as I am for what I see as the direction this country needs to go.

.....Partys are what has led to this problem....fubsy.

Excuse me, folks, but you've got to realize that the War on Drugs is fraught with fundamental errors, and is being used as an excuse to destroy the remaining vestiges of the bill of rights...

Prohibition doesn't work. We learned that in the thirties, and forgot it again in the sixties.

Legalize it. Legalize it ALL. And let the chips fall where they may. By legalizing it, you get the chance to REGULATE it. Sell whatever through liquor stores, pharmacies, whatever... I'd wager that it'd suddenly become a lot more difficult for kids to locate drugs. And I've yet to hear about a liquor store owner doing a drive-by on another liquor store... Take the black market economy money out of it, and put the distribution and sales in the hands of responsible folks, and you will see crime take a major drop. Take the easy/fast money away, along with the street cred glamour, and we'll see a drastic drop in independent entrepreneurs...

Sure, there are addicts. But if they no longer have to steal to support their habits, do we have to worry about them? The old saw about how drugs cause crime is patently false - The black market econonomy around illegal/prohibited substances is what encourages criminal activity.

Actually that would be great. It would be nice to have our civil rights restored with the end of the drug war. Nothing wrong with immigrants, especially since our economy is near full employment. Most of the people I work with are immigrants.

Libertarians *are* liberals, just classical liberals. They most definitely aren't Republicans.

If drugs were legalized, I'm betting they would have enormous "sin taxes" on them to elimante the advantage of decreased price (and presumably decreased crime.) Undoubtedly, you would have to be 21 or 18 to use, and we would still be punishing young addicts and the people that sold to them. People would die of overdoses, and the drug manufacturers/sellers would be sued.

Just a few things to think about, that's all.

All Right, that does it. You da**ned Libertarians have Pi**ed me off for the last time. Now you listen and you listen good. Quit f**king around with fielding a Presidential candidate and screwing up the conservative national posts. If you little Pi**ants want to become a force in American politics then ante up and pay your dues. Pick a state or two. Most likely one of the Western ones where your ideas will resonate the most. Run candidates for local office. Hell, I don't care if the first one is dogcather. Build up a base until you control the state then move on to the next one. When you've got something that you've built, that's working, that's is a proof of how your ideas work and then go onto the National arena. Yeah I know it's really about trying to qualify for the Federal election $$ so quit the money grubbing tactics. "Kwit yer bitching" and get to work and shut up about "electing a Libertarian President" and show me what you got you political sissies.

Coyote 6, you might want to consider spending a little more time reading other posts in this forum before you start sounding off like that. Learning a little bit more about the Libertarian Party, U.S. history, and the American political system might help prevent you from looking quite so stupid.

I dont see how anyone who looks at the drug culture in this country could believe it will just dry up and go away......if legalization occurs. I also cant see how you dismiss the problems that occur with drug use. I realize they are occuring now, and dont want to see them occur in greater numbers. Yes, the "war on drugs" has been used as a way to violate or push the limits of the law in this country. Because the lawyers, Judges, Legislature's have failed to keep those abuses from happening is no reason to legalize drugs. Do I think they will ever be legalized.....I dont know, I tend to doubt it, because of the enormous profits that are made. Its kinda like any crime, there are those who will not agree with the law and will not follow it is that a reason to remove the law?....i dont think so.
Have you libertarians done a survey to see how many of your members are also members of NORML?....it would be interesting.

Ericm,
thats my point. How when the only argument the libertarians seem to have In common with the Conservative or Conservative Republicans is the pro-2nd amendment----How do they expect to draw and keep Republican/conservative members as their liberal/democratic view start to materialize?
It seems to me that Libertarians have more in common with todays democrats then they do any other party, except for the 2nd amendment perhaps...open borders?, legalization of drugs? anything else?
It does that seem that Libertarians tend to avoid the hard issues.....Open borders, legalization of drugs.....avoiding any policy other than anarchy....lol....Im having way to much fun here...lol...fubsy.

Thank you all for the interesting and varied replies to my somewhat "tongue-in cheek" post. And I was poking fun at the 2 party system and how we react to it every four years. I respect everyones opinion here because of the type of country we live in. It is what makes us great.
Yes, I am a Libertarian and very proud of it. But that does not make this the "only" viable party nor have I ever said it did. Nor am I in lock-step with every position the party takes. I post my beliefs because that is what I believe in. Plain and simple!! If every one agreed with me it would be quite boring.
I will continue to espouse my "Libertarian philosophy" and invite constructive criticism. Who knows......I might win some of you over...........or not!! ;)

p.s. I do work, week in and week out, with my county committee!!

Frenchy,

Believe it or not, most of us here agree with the beliefs of the Libertarian Party and would feel just fine supporting Browne. The problem is that this year is not like a normal year where people say "we need to vote Republican just this one more time." We REALLY do have a major crisis on our hands this time! Our own Commander in Chief is leading the charge against law-abiding firearms manufacturers with a bushel basket full of frivilous lawsuits. What good will the 2nd Amendment do us if there are no gun makers left in this country? If elected, Bush can put a stop to this madness.

Contrary to what Browne has said recently, it will matter a great deal who nominates the next three or four Supreme Court justices. With Emerson soon to be on it's way to the Supreme Court it is very important that Bush/Cheny be in charge of the nomination process and not Al (register the guns) Gore!

Check this out...

written by Cactus at TFL

"You asked us to take a look at who Reagan and Bush appointed to the Supreme Court. Let's do that, O.K?

Reagan:

1. Raised Justice William Rehnquist to Chief Justice. (originally appointed by Nixon) Solid conservative vote.

2. Sandra Day O'Connor. Swing vote. So-so choice, could be better, could be worse.

3. Antonin Scalia. Solid conservative vote. Probably best constructionist on Court along with Thomas.

4. Anthony Kennedy. Solid conservative vote.

Bush:

1. David Souter. Reliable liberal vote.

2. Clarence Thomas. Solid conservative vote. Excellent constructionist along with Scalia.

Of the six Justices appointed by Reagan and Bush, four are solid conservatives, one is a swing vote and one is a liberal(a serious mistake by Bush acting on Sen Rudmans recomendation). That is not a bad record if you ask me.

Now lets look at Clinton's appointees:

1. Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Liberal.

2. Stephen Breyer. Liberal.

Why is this so difficult to understand?

This is how a President influences the direction we as a nation take more than any other way. A President and Congress can pass all of the laws that they choose, but the Supreme Court can throw any of them out if they feel they are un-Constitutional"

Bush might win. Gore might win. Browne will NOT. No matter what anybody here does.

I don't want Gore in there. I'll do anything legal to prevent it.

Two of the last three GOP candidates for the two highest offices in the land lost due to pissing off gunnies: Bush Sr. lost to Clinton after tearing up his NRA membership, and Lungren lost the Calif governor's race after pissing off gunnies repeatedly out here.

THE GOP ISN'T STUPID - THEY'VE NOTICED THIS TREND. That's what's gonna control Bush even if he wants to start leaning slightly grabberish.

Jim

You make a good point Jim. This is going to be a very close election and it shouldn't be. On the single issue alone, 2nd. Amendment, Bush would win in a land slide of epic proportions. With 80 million gun owners out there, it should be a "no brainer". Lets say every third party voter was also a gun owner. What small percentage would that be? Certainly not enough to take away from that massive voting block. Yet we are going to have a close election. Your problem, it would seem, is not with the third party electorate, but with those "sit on your ass" gun owners. It won't be the Libertarians, Greens, Reformers, etc. that will lose the election for Bush! JMHO!

Actually Frenchy,

The problem is not as Libertarians like to frame it...a problem with all gun owners...gun owners generally dont vote that way, not like abortionist. Although a large segment of gun owners have become one issue voters, there are still millions of people who own guns who rarely use them, dont every really think about them--and are not going to make this their prime focus. As a result any vote that dosent help bush, works against him, thats just the reality of it.
btw, I dont care if ya post all the libertarian views you want...just answer the questions that are posed after ya post...fubsy...

There has been a "drug culture" in this world ever since there have been humans. It will not go away until humans go away. Why not? Because all the judges, legislators, and laws in world can't control the actions of an individual. There are 6 billion people on this planet, which basically means there are 6 billion governments on this planet.
I control what I do, based on my moral beliefs. The same holds true for each person in this world. If Joe Doper wants to stick a needle full of heroin into his vien, it does no harm to me, or anyone else. Let him do it. He'll take himself out of the gene pool sooner rather than later, and good ridance.

Interestingly, I do think that the strongest oppostion to legalization will likely come from the drug lords. As it stands right now, they make hundreds of millions of dollars annually, tax free. If drugs are legalized, those cocaine lords are going to be reduced to the economic level of "gentleman farmer," with an annual income of maybe a couple hundred thou. Wouldn't you be opposed to legislation that would reduce your income from the tax-free 9 figure level to the taxable 6 figure level?
A dentist friend once informed me that he could buy half an ounce of pharmecuetical grade cocaine for use as a local aneasthetic. It cost him $75. It's about 94-96% pure.
Where's Joe Cokehead going to go for his supply, the guy on the corner selling 65-75% pure stuff for $100/gram, or the corner liquor store where he can buy 14 times the amount of a product that is scientifically demonstrated to be 20-30% better, for the same amount of money?
How long will Joe Streetdealer stay in business if he can't give away his product, but the penalty for selling it in an unregulated fashion is the same as it is today? You think he's going to risk his freedom to lose his arse financially? No way.

The drug war and the war against guns are inextricably linked. Make one go away, and it will reduce the need for the other. Prohibition didn't work once, and what is going on today with both drugs and guns isn't similar to Prohibition, it's the exact same thing.

I'm a Harry Browne type of guy, I think most gun owners are.

BUT, I have to agree, this year is no ordinary election, Gore is a danger the likes of which this country has never seen.. The stakes are way too high.

The good thing is regardless of populous vote (the democrats that favor Gore, most are too stupid to know that the popular vote doesn't win you the presidency, the electorial votes do) and Bush is ahead on that, and that's what counts...

Go Harry!!! But I have to say that Bush MUST win. If Gore wins, I'm moving to New Zealand. I'd be subjected to the same crappy gun laws, but at least there will be rolling green hills and Xena...
