Herter's Super Model 3 Press

Get the set screw type rather than the threaded screw down type.

About the time I thought I 'almost' had ever thing. I have screw in shell holders, I do not have a Herter press that fits them.

It is possible to add the detent to a Herter press, drill and tap then add the detent ball, spring and screw with a lock nut.

Yes I guess you could do it yourself if you are a machine shop owner, but drilling and threading the frame for the spring and detent ball and cutting the detent around the circumference of the ram would not be a home workshop type operation.

I once read in a Herters catalog that the platform on the new model, model 3 was for swaging.

I don't remember the details, but I seems like a logical place to connect a swage bracket assembly to add strength and support.

Yes it must be something like that. Could never tell but the platform does improve the appearance of the press even if it had no purpose.

The RCBS primer pocket swage would not work on the first Model 3 presses. the primer pocket swage did not work/last long on the RCBS presses "BACAUSE' reloaders assumed all cases had the same case head thickness.

The flat surface allowed the swaged to be removed from the primer pocket when the ram is lowered. I have the Herter triple web Super Model 3 with the little work deck/surface. If I thought there was an advantage I would remove my 2 ram Herter press, or the U press or the turret Herter press or a Herter 3 without the little work area then install the late model press.
