What's the statute say for VA? Yeah, I'm too lazy to look it up from the left-coast.
It may depend on how the alcohol service area is laid out too. If it's a "bar" or "lounge" inside the bowling alley that is segregated by partitions or walls (to keep out minors) then is that the place alcohol is served? Or do they have leggy waitresses bringing you your beers at the lanes?
Is there a provision in the law that 1/2 or more of the revenue has to come from alcohol sales if it is a combined business (e.g. restaurant & bar)? Another way to figure this out is to ask your local D.A. and state's A.G. office for clarification.
I live in Virginia, also.
When I go bowling, I leave the holster on. ...Covered with an outside shirt.
How you hide the gun can be a problem. I do it but, you have to fiigure out where to put it so it won't get stolen.
In Virginia you can NOT carry concealed in any establishment that serves alcohol. HOWEVER due to state preemption you CAN carry openly as long as the establishment hasn't posted that you can't.
So if I'm walking along with my wife enjoying a stroll through downtown, and we suddenly decide to go into a restaurant, I have to either switch to open carry, or go lock it in the car. It's earned me a few odd looks before I can tell you that.
Basically it's a leftover law from when the anti crowd was trying to sneak a sideways ban against carry concealed, but neglected to actually read the laws of the state. So we have this bit of idiocy.
Believe me, we're working hard to get it repealed.
It's compounded by the fact there's tons of children in the alley, so OC would get a lot of attention. They haven't posted anything but I'm not trying to get on the management's bad side as they treat me well.
Though I had, and have, a VA license, I'm embarrassed to say that I never got around to actually carrying there. I worked in DC and never wanted to chance accidentally having anything on me when I arrived at Capitol South each morning. Back here in Indiana, carry anywhere you like.
