Henry H010 45-70. may need some help with this one!

I was out shooting the Henry H010 yesterday and got it up to the 300 round point but I was admiring the rifle as I loaded 4 more shells in and noticed that when I dropped a shell in, the lever would pop open a little and knock the bolt back some. I am not sure if this is a problem because I do not know how long it has been doing this.

Any advise would be appreciated.

I do reload, but I reload to factory specs. I have just started reloading but this does not happen when I am shooting, just when I drop a shell in the tube.

If you think you have a problem, discuss with Henry.
You'll get more mileage there than asking for help in two threads here.

is there a problem with me asking on two threads? if so, please by all means ignore one of them. I did not think anyone was still on the other thread.

It's generally considered bad etiquette to post the same thing/question/problem on more than one thread while both are running simultaneously.

Again- call Henry.

Henry 45-70

Mine will do this also. I hold the lever if I drop loads vertically and don't if horizontal. If Henry says it is a problem please let us know.

Yes here too, henry does not make bad guns, I thank that the way it is when you drop that big boy down a tube !! :)

Not sure about Henry rifles but many level guns have a detent or locking level to keep the handle closed. Many lever guns were used as saddle guns. Imagine if you were riding along and the lever on your rifle kept flopping around! Winchesters had a stronger spring on some guns to keep the level closed. Uberti has a locking lever on some of their guns.

I've never seen a horse scabbard short enough to leave the lever uncovered.
They are always long enough to enclose the lever & keep one inclined to wander loose from doing so.

Not really an issue inside the leather; a lever than "unlocks" from its inherently-designed retention (Win '73, for example) or jumps its retaining plunger (later designs like the Model 92 and the Marlins) is more of a nuisance on foot and in general handling.

If a lever won't stay fully closed during regular carry in hand or shooting, that I wouldn't like.

I am currently awaiting a reply from Henry but they said even if it is not a problem, to send it in and they would check it out for me. WOW what a company! I was tinkering with it this weekend and it seems the shell elevator move under the weight of the bullet and could be the problem but when I shoot it, I do not notice any extra force on the lever at all so I don't think it is a major issue.

I will keep you all posted on what Henry says on this.

but they also informed me that the H010 that I have may tear up in another way. they said that the ones with the ghost ring sights are apt to have a tear or ripping in the mag tube due to recoil. but if this occurs to send the rifle back to them and they would fix it.

As noted in the other thread- DON'T drop rounds straight down.
Angle the barrel to let 'em slide more gently.

Dropping straight down with a totally vertical mag invites the Gods Of Chance to rain severely all over your parade.

I am sending my henry back In because they want to replace it with a newer model because of the mag-tube issue with the model that I have. they were very kind when they talked to me and they are sending me a shipping label and I should receive my gun back within the next three weeks after sending it out.
