Help with scope please!

Okay so recently I purchased a Mosin Nagant M38. I want to mount a scope on it (This one:http://www.midwayusa.com/product/95...mm-1-10-mil-adjustments-mil-dot-reticle-matte)
and I was seriously thinking of the RockSolid mount but not only is it really expensive but I would have to pay for it to be drilled and tapped. I like the Idea of having a see through mount that IS NOT A SCOUT SCOPE mount. My dad has one on his 30-06 and I really like also being able to use the iron sights. I am not totally opposed to the idea of a scout scope mount but I have not been able to find a good scout scope. I want a nice one with good magnification that is not too expensive ($150-$200).

Please give your thoughts on this. If there is a good scout scope and good mount I will think about it.

Look at Burris and Leupold for scout scopes, but I doubt you'll find a mil/mil scope offered. Burris and Leupold are the best brands for scout scopes that I know of.

Depending of course on the current condition I would think twice about drilling and tapping a M38. The prices for these have doubled over the last couple years, and if it's in decent condition I would use a no-modifications mount only.

Burris and Leupold make great scopes but you should also check out Nikon and Redfield.
All four make good scopes in your price range.

... I really like also being able to use the iron sights.

I had one of these long ago on a Remington 742. It sounded like such a good idea, until I had to jury-rig a stock pad to get something approaching a cheek weld.

For iron sight backup, I would save up for a decent mount / QD rings and just take the scope off if you want iron sights.

The Rock Solid mount not only requires D&T, but also needs a different bolt...
