Help with pistol decision.

1911's

There seems to be a trend to dbl action plastic handguns for SD/Trail guns. Guess this list will say lot of my thoughts on that subject.

Colts: 1991 SS GM, 1991 Blue Commander, 1991 Blue Officers model, matching #2 1980's SS Double Eagle Officers model

Springfield A: GM loaded model SS, Lt wt Compac Blue

Two of the above were my duty weapons, the Commander and the GM loaded. Never feeling under gunned or at a disadvantage weapons choice.

Did I forget to mention that the 1911 and I have been together since 1969 when my Uncle Sam, U.S. Navy uncle, introduced us together. It has been a long friendship and only when I start my dirt nap will we be parted. Sons and Daughters have eyes on my old friends, lol.

Be safe and careful.

my 2 cents for self defense the S&W 38 Airweight. for shooting fun the Springfield loaded. 38 ammo is reasonablely priced. You have to carry the weapon and you will have to practice with it. Get what you feel comfortable with, what fits you and your lifestyle. Don't let others make your decision for you, you could regret it.

Based on what I see those guns going for currently, the three best values out of that list are the S&W M12, Springfield Loaded, and CZ P07. The Taurus, Charter, and Glock aren't bad prices but, IMHO, they're not screaming deals either.

For CCW, I'd take the S&W M12. For value at the range, the springfield. AIM Surplus just had police trade in Glock 19s for $370, but sold out quick.

While the Model 12 is a fine gun, be aware that unlike other post-1958 S&W K-Frame .38 Specials, it is not rated for +P ammunition.

Get whatever you wouldn't dare sell. For lots of folks, that'd probably be the Glock. For me? The Springfield, and even if I already owned ten of 'em. The CZ doesn't seem like a bad choice either.

For general purpose, I'd go with the 1911 or Glock. Both a excellent guns. The Glock is going to be lighter to carry and cheaper to practice with. The 1911 is the better range gun, and .45ACP is kind of a gold standard for defensive calibers.

The 1911 or the G19, with the G19 perhaps having a edge due to ammo costs. I have no experience with the CZ.

If you can swing it, get the CA Bulldog & the S&W M12. Both are great guns with significant resale value. The Lasergrips on the CA could get you $200, and the M12 could go for twice the price to the right S&W collector. Or you could keep both and enjoy the heck out of them....
