Help with choosing a precision training/target rifle.

Perhaps oddly, I have not found 22LR to be boring at all. I do find other calibers useful and interesting, but I never get tired of 22's... So much fun at so little cost.

My enjoyment of the 22lr was revived about 5 years ago, through a couple of clone Charger's.
Shooting prairie dogs at short and LR and long-range steel...Out to 500 yards. There is a 22lr BR match that is about 1.5 hour drive from me, and I am strongly considering getting involved with it as well. Shoot out to 300 yards.

Several people have put 40 record shots in 1 MOA at 50 and 100 yards slung up in prone with rimfire 22 rifles.

Nobody's done that with a centerfire rifle I know of.

I believe it, especially if they were using some of the high quality ammo made before 1980. That yellow-box XPert stuff back in the early 70's was simply phenomenal in my 22.
