Help with a decision - pocket carry

There is no "right answer" as the previous posts have indicated. It depends on what you are wearing and how you will carry. One of my earliest "pocket" guns was a S&W Model 38, which was one of the original shrouded revolvers. It was a great gun, totally reliable, but for some reason I couldn't hit anything with it. Just didn't point well for me. Traded it when the PM9 came out from Kahr, and haven't looked back. Now, some would say the PM9 is not as reliable and they may be right, but it works for me and is more concealable (slimmer) and more accurate at least in my hands. All of the other pocket guns mentioned by earlier posters are also modern, reliable weapons. The revolvers are wider, the semis slimmer but some say more difficult to control. For a new shooter I would stick with .380 or 9 in a semi and the .38 in a snubbie. Adequate power without losing control. The .40 has a nastier snap and you will need to practice a lot more.

Oh yea, a stainless j-frame in .357. I carry it everywhere except the shower. Can't be beat and it goes bang every time all the time.

I'm looking for a little more horsepower and am thinking of a J-frame, a KT P-11 or PF9, or one of the Kahrs in 40SW.

The PF-11 isn't too much smaller (albeit MUCH lighter) than your XD-SC. The PF-9 is slightly thinner than the PF-11 but has pretty much the same dimensions as the PF-11 but is lighter.

Recoil on the PF-9 is snappier. Recoil is PF-11 is comfortable. Neither of them are what I would consider pocket carry pistols.

I really like "quality" gear. Well, I stayed away from Keltec for years thinking them a "lesser" quality pistol. On a whim a few months ago I purchased a PF-9, I just purchased another. Can't say enough about them, they are GREAT. Small enough for the front pocket, full 9mm power, adjustable sights that you can see, so accurate it's hard to believe, very shootable trigger. Mine have been totally reliable with Federal 115 gr. HP's (that's all I've fired through it) also extra mags are inexpensive. For the $224 I paid at a Gun Show I think it a GREAT pistol. Really don't see how you could improve on the whole package much. I would not even consider buying another pocket pistol as I like the PF-9 so well. The recoil is not bad at all, I've fired 50 rounds in a session and it was still fun. My tiny wife (5' and approx. 95-100 lbs) fired several mags yesterday for the first time. I expected limp wristing and jams. The pistol ran perfectly and she was quite accurate with the thing. We both really like the pistol.

I have four "pocket" guns:

S&W 649 Bodyguard Airweight
PPKS (.380)
Beretta Bobcat .22lr
Keltec .32

I tend to drop the .38/.380 in my cargo pockets in pocket holsters, the .32/.22 combo is used for lighter or less robust attire.

I tend to carry in pairs, so my pants/shorts/shirts/jackets don't look lopsided.;)

I am partial to .45 ACP and have carried this S&W Chief special in coat or jacket pocket before I changed my carry method. About 6 to 8 years ago I switched to carrying in a pocket book. I have mentioned pocketbook carry on other forums and gotten some negative comments but I carried this way long enough to wear one pocketbook out and I just bought a replacement about 6 months ago. I still holster carry but when it is warm and I am wearing shorts and "T" shirt it is difficult to conceal a large handgun but this allows me to carry a large gun in warm weather
