Help - Stuck Round

Wow,Frankenmauser! You description of PB Blaster reminded me of somebody!

An honorable mention to KW Knock-R Loose for penetrating oil. :-)

IMO,they all work pretty good.

I agree with the suggestion to NOT use wood to drive anything out of a barrel, for the reasons given.

The stuck round might pop out easy with a hammer.

I'm prone to NOT using a hammer for such things,in principle.Consider, the powder will likely be taken to full compression as the bullet deep seats.
OK. I'll ignore the fact that some pistol powdersare double base, with a fairly significant nitroglycerine content.
I have no reason to believe you could ever get any smokless powder to detonate with a hammer. No problem. :-).

Now,once you get below the bullet seating portion of a 9 mm case, considering blowback SMG's and unsupported chambers, what does the brass generally do?
YES!! It gets THICKER!! So,what MIGHT be the effect of driving a bullet into the tapered portion of a stuck case? . Ever use a Swedgelock threaded insert?
Or an expanding mandrel or collet? HMMMM Suppose the round could get stuck tighter?IMO,same applies to beating out a stuck squib bullet.Whacking on the bullet upsets it,potentially increasing diameter,or "stuckness".If I must hammer,I might prefer a bigger, slower hammer, with more "push" than "whack". Even a Dead-Blow.

SO,I see what looks to me like,as I said,an opportunity to use a shellholder to pull the cartridge out with the press.
If you place a tall (1 3/4 or 2 in ) machinists parallel bar against the ram of the press to engage the barrel hood and rest on the press frame,it should strip the barrel free.
You will want something...a piece of heater hose, even,to slip into the 7/8-14 female threads at the top of the press to protect the barrel and hold it reasonably co-axial with the ram.. If the ID of a universal decapper die will accept the barrel, pull the spindle out and use it as a perfect barrel bushing.
Cake! It will work.

I would 1st try to "wedge" the round out by using a large screw driver under the rim & over the bottom of the barrel tang using leverage. If no go there, i would tap it out from the front of the barrel with a wooden dowel slightly less than the barrel ID.

Could just be the OAL of the cartridge has caused the bullet to get stuck in the rifling.
I would be willing to bet that a couple smacks with a dowel on the nose of that bullet will pop that round right out of there.

Whoever's idea it was to use a flathead screw driver to pry it out with the feed ramp as a fulcrum, worked great. Was able to slowly apply considerable pressure and slowly it came out.

And I didn't shoot myself. Thanks gang.

You are welcome.
And thank you for not shooting yourself in the process.:D

By the way, any feedback on what happened / bent case, etc?

Excitements over!

Nothing to see here, folks. Move along!

But I would like to point out that since the cartridge showed no sealant around the primer, that aforementioned Kroil would likely have penetrated and killed the primer. Or so we are warned when it comes to some cleaning and lube products.

And did anybody else notice that it was a TFL member named "BOOGIE the oily" who included pictures of lube products? I guess we may know one other interest he or she has. :p

:D:D Oh, you... YOU!!!:D:D:D
That was a good one. And you didn't notice that in the link I posted, I suggested a home-brew (the last one on the list), which is made with... ATF!!!

In any case, I'm a "he", and yes, my lifelong hobby is mechanics. However, that doesn't have anything to do with "Boogie, the oily"...
