Help Settle An Argument - Sig P239 or HKUSPc in 9mm

Oris- I'm not an engineer, my father is, but he's much smarter than I :)

Can you be more specific as to what attributes of the USP lead you to conclude that it is a "cheaply produced product?"

Greg,

Any plastic handgun parts are much cheaper to produce, no milling, grinding, heat treatment, etc, just molding. My rough estimate would be at least 5 to 1 - costs 5 times more to make steel frame, for example. Also, DA pull on HK is
very heavy and pretty rough, which is a function of not just the design, but also
assembly which lacks any kind of sofistication/tuneups... HK way of cutting labour cost. My price estimate
for HK USP 9 brings the cost of its production to $65-75, but it sells for at least $475, so I believe it's a rip off.
BTW, polygonal barrels are no better than
rifled ones, but much cheaper in production,
no magic there too...
