HELP PLEASE

Why do so many of us (yeah, I have done it too) offer advice where none was asked for? The original question has nothing to do with so many of the responses. While I do agree with many of your concerns, you have failed the original poster because he wasn't asking a question that you gave an answer to. Don't get me wrong because my son-in-law and grandson got started on my .22 pistol and will eventually graduate to something bigger once proficiency is there. Same thing with my wife - we worked up from a .22 to a 9mm that fits her hand. She isn't interested in my Colt Commander or .357, having found a suitable handgun.

Ok, off my soapbox.

If it is your first handgun, and you insist on one of the two, get the .45-70. With some of the loads I've adapted from GMDR (google it) you can make that big cartridge into a .45 colt. With other loads, you can ruin your shooting hand for a week or so. It's truly versatile.

It's not his first handgun and he states that he has fired a .500. He humbly admits to not having lots of experience compared to others on this site, however, lists the handguns he owns and presumably fires.

I hope submitting many posts on this site doesn't have the same affect shooting long-term without hearing protection...

Large bore revolvers are like motorcycles. People buy one, try it once then decide it's not for them and sell them cheap. If you're not opposed to used guns, you should be able to find either at a discount if you look. This probably applies to the BFR more than the S&W.
