Help picking a CC gun

I have had, and enjoyed a P239 for several years.

Yesterday, bought a pistol that is marginally thicker but otherwise similar, but holds 13+1 and has a very nice trigger. No, not a P229.... Oh, did I mention lighter, and 2/3 the cost?

Beretta PX4 9mm sub-compact. Worth a look.

239 or 245. I have both as well as the P2000Sk, I carry the HK more due to it holding more rounds in a similar size gun. My 239 and SK are both 357.

Look at the smaller ones.

You have a full size or nearly full size gun in the P239.

Now, you should look at something that is small enough to be truly easy to carry.

I would vote first for the P238, and second for the CZ Rami. The P238 is going to be easy to shoot well compared to other compact guns because it is single action: every shot is the same trigger pull. I've never had a bad experience with a CZ. They feel great and they shoot great.

To me, Sig Sauers feel great and shoot well, but I just don't like the looks. Not a problem for you.

I don't trust Kahrs because of what I've read about them here. They're iffy.

I think you should also consider the Walther PPS and Bersa Thunder 380, but there are good choices in your list too.

In selecting a concealed carry pistol you should consider:
1. What pistol can you conceal on your person?
2. Can you utilize the pistol effectively. ie draw, fire, and eliminate the threat.

My recommendation is that you try the weapons and a variety of carry options on. Once you find a weapon that meets both criteria then that is what you should select.

I am rather large and can conceal a full size 1911. You may not be able to do that.

You would not buy a suit of clothes without trying them on. Why would you consider an even more important purchase based on the recommendations of perferct strangers.

Yo SamNoto,

If I could choose only one from your list, and it is a good list, it would have to be the best one for CCW duty which is....the Sig P239 with the SRT trigger option (short-reset-trigger), makes a difference in rapid fire. Its a heavy pistol, but you know are carrying.

Have a P239 in an ankle holster right now, but usually carry the P239 in a shoulder holster or IWB.

There is also a 9mm extended 10 round mag available for the P239. Very accurate, has been 100% reliable even with the hottest ammo, concealable, superb DA and SA trigger, is an approved Secret Service carry.

The beauty of the Sig P239 is that its kind of a half-way gun, small enough to conceal well, yet big enough to handle a determined deadly threat.

Good luck.

I've got a Kahr CW9 and it's a nice gun but it's striker fired, no external hammer and no DA/SA. AFAIK all the Kahrs are striker fired and DAO. Are you flexible on the action type?

I've got a few DAO handguns but prefer DA/SA with external hammers myself. My CZ Rami 2075 is chunky but easily concealed. It has an outstanding trigger. The gun is DA/SA and can be carried cocked and locked. I don't have one but the CZ P-01 looks like it would be a nice carry piece.

Gotta admit, I'm not a fan of Sig although I have a Mosquito that runs well. With all the controls a Sig just looks too "busy" for my taste. Have you considered the FN-P. Seems to meet all your criteria.
