Help picking a CC gun

Ok I'm looking for my conceal carry gun... finally.

I would like your input but I am particular to semi autos, not polymer, DA/SA with external hammers.

I am open to your suggestions and could end up with a polymer strike fire if I really like it.

NO REVOLVERS sorry guys not my cup of tea.
No Glocks not my cup of tea (although the gen 4 feels better)
No Kel-tecs not my cup of tea

This list is long so I'm hoping to cut it down to one. (although I would love to own them all)

SIG P239
SIG P238
SIG P232/P230
SIG P245/P220
SIG P6/P225
Kahr K40/9
Kahr MK40/9
Kahr P40/9
Kahr PM40/9
CZ 2075 RAMI
Kimber Solo 9
H&K P2000SK

Yes I am a SIG fan.

I have played with most of these but only shot the P239.

Not too concerned with caliber, mostly how it feels in my hand and size. The smaller the more likely to cary.

I am a smaller guy 5'4" and have a P229 that I could cary but to celebrate getting my CC I think I need a new one

Don't want to spend too much but I feel if the gun is right then its worth it.

Your thoughts? Anyone cary any of these on a regular basis? Own one and not mind meeting up so I could get some range time?

I have an MK9. Easy to pocket (back pocket is better than front, though,) and it virtually disappears under a cover garment, even with an OWB holster. Solidly reliable. Very smooth trigger. All around excellent carry piece, especially if you have smaller hands (which I do.) Check one out if you can.

I have, and carry, an MK40 and SIG 239. They are both fine choices in my book. Shoot as many of the ones you can that you are looking at if possible before making a decision.

If I already have a 229, then I would look for a smaller pistol to CC.
From your list, I would pick the, Kahr K9, CW9, or CM9 whichever one feels good. Being a small gun, I would stay with 9mm to minimize felt recoil. In addition to the small size, it has minimal external controls which is probably good when in a stressful situation.

I do not own a kahr but have shot a friend's CW9 a few times. It was not unpleasant to shoot but for my big hands, the trigger break is a little too far back making it feel a little awkward. Nice DA pull.

My friend had a huge problem with his CZ Rami,,,

We went out shooting and returned via the Evil Pawn Shop,,,
He fell in love with and purchased a brand new CZ Rami,,,
We went to his house where he cleaned it real nicely,,,
Then he laid it on the counter for his wife to see.

She picked it up and handled it a bit,,,
Said, "What a cute little gun.",,,
And placed it in her purse.

He hasn't seen it since.

She did let me shoot it once,,,
Felt just as good as my CZ-75B.

Register one vote for a Sig P238. I got an HD version and it's awesome... like a baby 1911. Doesn't feel like a toy like my P3AT, and plenty accurate. Seems to digest any ammo I feed it without complaint... I've tried some HPs (don't know the brand) and four different FMJ without incident.

I'm not going to tell you what gun to get :). I will say that I've gained new respect for the 9mm of late, based on the performance of the best possible loads, including the stuff Winchester and Federal market to "law enforcement only" and the cranked-up Gold Dots spat out by Buffalo Bore in particular.

A 4" or better tube helps these loads, and controlling them is best not done out of an "ultralight". But out of something substancial, I suspect the "lowly 9" is now hopped-up enough that if the same loads had been available in 1998-2001 or so nobody would have needed to veer down the 10mm/10mm-Lite/40S&W path.

Shot the K9 against the P239

Just got back from the range where I shot the K9 and P239 (both 9mm) 50 rounds through each. could get the follow up shots faster with the P239 because the trigger is just like my P229R. the Kahr has a longer reset which would just be a training issue. Shot them both as soon as I could get a shot picture, from seven yards the P239 was better grouped, again because I am use to the SIG trigger. Enjoyed each, P239 has 1 more round then the K9 though.

BUT the range had a NIB P239 40S&W W/ Night Sights for $650 OTD. I am very tempted to go buy it tomorrow. It might be a display gun I'm not sure.

Want some range time with the CZ RAMI. Still have never been able to get my hands on a MK9/40

It is a time to celebrate! Any time someone considers the purchase of a new gun it's good.
Sounds like you have done some serious consideration. I personally carry a Glock 26 with a clip draw inside the waist. My go to for carry. I'm now considering a Sig 220 Compact. My .02.

Remember, what ever you do, somebody will say your wrong.

Good Luck!

Can I suggest a different CZ? Try the CZ 40p, it has a very 1911 grip, but in a slightly smaller size and is a very reasonably priced weapon. They are very nice handling.

Sig 239 would be my choice (at least out of the list you provided). You've fired it, so you know how sweet it is. Of course, I'd like to have more capacity and less weight, so I'd personally carry a Glock. But I know you're not a fan.

I don't like Kahrs (partly for the reasons you mentioned). But a lot of people are fans.

The reason I like the 239 is that it's still a true combat pistol and doesn't seem to compromise much relative to its bigger brothers.

Two of your list...

I own and have carried 2 guns on your list, the Kahr MK9 and the Sig P239 in 9mm. I like them both, and they have been accurate and reliable for me. The Kahr MK9 is of course smaller and more concealable, and I like to use appendix carry for it. The P239 I carry behind my right hip in a DeSantis OWB holster.

helpful message

I think you should get a weapon you feel comfortable with, that fits your hand, if you plan to carry concealed one that you can conceal well.

Since you like the Sig triggers ...and it must fit your hands pretty well - because you shot it well ....I'd say buy the Sig 239 ...

Picking a weapon is all about the feel in your hands - the controls - and most importantly the trigger ( how it breaks, and how it resets ) ...and to compromise on a gun with a trigger that does not reset the way you like, makes no sense to me ...unless you just want to add something different to your collection ....

But most guys that add a variety of guns ...with a variety of triggers ...end up shooting the guns the like the best the most ...and the others just sit in the safe...

Sigs are out standing guns. That said I have had horrible luck with my wifes Sig p238.

It has been to the shop a few times to fix problems and every time it goes it comes back better but still not 100%. It actually frustrates me a lot.

That said my dad and my brother both own sigs and theres works fine of course theres are not the P238. I don't hate sigs but my wifes P238 is trying hard to make me hate sigs.

have owned and/or fired almost every gun on your list. i have multiple sigs and love them. however, for ccw, the hk psp is the best ccw i have ever owned or fired. it's natural point-and-shoot accuracy is unmatched in a small firearm. it is also the safest gun to carry with one in the chamber.

I too would go with a 239, a bit heavy and thick but a great shooting weapon. I have recently switched from my Kahr P9 to my 239 simply because I shoot it better. I can deal with the weight and added thickness.
