type Oleg Volk into your search engine, find his site and look around. Might give you some ideas.

If your prof has an agenda, than an "in your face" style like "Dial 911 and die!", will likely not get you the grade you deserve. Sad, but true.

Americans value independance. We like the do it yourself approach. Some people think you should not defend yourself, you should call the police. But when you call them, who shows up? A man with a GUN!

I don't live near any major metro area, but I have heard that some places when you call 911 you can get put on hold.

Gun control discriminates against the elderly and the handicapped.

Gun control laws create a safe work environment for predators.

Is the object here to be creative, have her political statement displayed, have your political statement displayed, educate the viewer on gun control, or piss off the guy in control of grades?:)

Rimrock

New Glock - $600.00
Ammunition - $100.00
Range membership - $10.00 an hour.

Ability to protect your loved ones - priceless.

I read these two statements on gun control yesterday...I think on this board.

"An effective means used by the Nazis to slaughter millions of Jews."

"A policy used in prisons to make them some of the safest places on earth."

It's your body. It's your decision.
Pro-choice or no choice.

It's not just YOUR body...
Unless you think you OWN the unmentionable one inside...

It ain't like bolemia and the fetal infant ain't vomit... :barf:

What kind of grade did SHE get?

The slogan being typically liberal... your friend probably got an "A"

Pointer, that was uncalled for. This is not the place for that kind of discussion regardless of views... Moving along...

How 'bout this: "An armed society is a safe society. Where do you want to live?"

"Pointer, that was uncalled for. This is not the place for that kind of discussion regardless of views... Moving along..."

Agreed 100%

Another idea for the gun project: are there any other famous philosophers who have weighed in on this? Aristotle, Plato, Augustine, Aquinas, anyone. Helps lend the scholastic credo, if necessary.

Call Your Local PD

Call your local PD and get their average response time to a 911 call, start from there, if the avg response time is 15 minutes use graphics to show what can happen in 15 minutes, e.g. A house catches on fire, show house with a trickle of smoke, next image is the same house engulfed in flames. If you want drama, show a mother at her kicthen table with her toddler and small child feeding them dinner with a clock behind them, then depict a smashed kitchen door to that same kitchen, hanging on its hinges, show a phone hanging on its line, maybe an overturned chair, spilled milk, and a clock with minute hand pointed to a time 14 minutes later. You get the idea, don't promote the gun, show just how helpless you are when you don't have the means to protect yourself, demonstrate the stupidity of the old adage that the police will be there to protect you.

This kind of graphic presentation makes a great point and it might work for a magazine, but we have to remember that we're talking about a billboard here. To maximize effectiveness on a billboard, the graphics must be simple and text kept to a minimum.

Another Quote...

from Jeffrey Snyder's "A Nation of Cowards":

"Call for the police, call for an ambulance, and call for a pizza...see who gets there first."

(No disrespect intended to LEOs or EMS; there are simply too few LEOs or EMS to cover everyone, as if self-protection were a "service" for which one could expect on-demand delivery.)

But pointer, she was just meaning that she wanted something catchy. I found that very catchy wether it was accurate or not. This isn't about the other slogan, this is about helping her.

“One man with a gun can control 100 without one. ”

"You supporting gun control is like a chicken supporting Colonel Sanders"

EDIT:
I've got a firm policy on gun control. If there's a gun around, I want to be the one controlling it.

Just added that one to my siggy...lol

There are lots of good ideas here. I sort of like SanAnn's time-phased concept, but it may not translate to static (paper) all that well.

My concept, using my favorite tag-line...

Two photographs in the same house, same actors.

Both photos shows threatening, masked man with a chef's knife (or pry bar) either stepping over the threshold of a smashed door -- or -- entering through a window or glass door.

One photo shows a frightened woman on the phone, cord stretched as though she's "tied" to one spot to call 911. Perhaps a small child clutches her dress or sweater from behind, peering out fearfully.

The other photo shows the woman standing at a room corner, using 2 hands in a braced ("barricade") stance with her child behind her pointing towards the bad guy, perhaps yelling something ("get 'em Mom!"). Put a real handgun in her hand -- preferrably a 4" revolver. If you use a semi-auto pistol, use a 1911 or full size Beretta (later point out they're "military" style guns).

Arrange the photos left & right on the display, putting the woman with the gun on the left side and the frightened woman on the right. Then use large print above:

IN AN EMERGENCY

Then below each photo a caption:

A Gun in The Hand ... Beats a cop on the phone!
Victims rely on the Police to protect them.

You can substitute an elderly woman in place of a mother with child if desired to make people think about how vulnerable the elderly would be without a firearm.

Take II

Another idea I had as I finished the first one above...

Bold type: Pick your anti-crime tool!

Then describe the scene with a photo by getting a BIG fit male with a bodybuilder's body wearing a form fitting t-shirt and a ski-mask. Take the photo to enhance the apparent size of the man, who looks like he's reaching out with both hands to grab the photographer.

Now, near the bottom of the photo, on the left, overlay the image of a cellphone in a circle -- on the right do the same with a photo of a handgun. Below each image, have the following:

[Cellphone pic] .......... [handgun pic]
Response time: .......... Response Time:
3 - 15 minutes ........... 0.25 - 0.85 seconds
