Help me with new scope guys

Scope for Tikka

I bought my son a Tikka T3 in .308 2 years ago, put a Nikon 4.5-14 with BDC reticle on it and he is deadly with it. Shot his ( he was 10) first deer with it last year, 323 yards. Before I could even tell him which circle of the reticle to hold on the deer after I called out the distance the deer was on the ground. Getting him to the range and used to the scope and BDC circles was huge.
I must say with Nikon's Spot On web site the BDC reticle has never been more effective. Got to Nikonhunting.com, click on the Spot On logo and register (it's all FREE) and then you can enter all your shooting data including your scope and away you go.
Check it out and let me know what you think.

I like my Burris scope. its a great optic at a decent price and you have to try to break it. never had any problems and saved $200 over the leupold

Check out the Sightron SII and SIII line of scopes. I have 5 of them on my rifles and will probably get more. Lifetime warranty, bright and sharp optics, plus great service if you ever need it.

i was at work today and it was kinda slow so i went and look at scopes i think im going to go with leupold vx 2 3x9x40. I work at gander mountain in the hunting department the brands i looked at were zeiss leupold and nikon. thats for all the feed back

Save $100.00 more and get a zeiss ($400.00)...from cabelas ,a very good scope!

My 2 cents,Jim

This, a 3X9X40 Conquest is a great scope at that price. Or another option is to look at the Bushnell Elite 4200's. I know Midway and Natchez has had them on sale at some pretty reduced prices. Bright clear glass with pretty good optics. Leupold is great too. Not a fan of Nikon's products.

i really dont think the zeiss is going to be cheaper of him seens he works at gander and the leopuld vx-2 3-9X40 sell for $299 to $349 depending on finish and reticle

i have a leupold vxII 3-9x40 mounted on my 270 and it held up for about 3 years, just now the retical in it does not hold zero anymore but thats what they have the warrenty for.

No one said it was going to be cheaper, in fact its $100.00 more but a lot more scope for the money. I have both the VXII and a Conquest and the Conquest is A LOT better scope. Nothing wrong with the Leupold its just not the same as the Ziess.

compaired both the leupold and the zeiss side by side and to me they were close to the same and i dont think the zeiss is worth the extra money. just my opinion tho

Did you compare them in the store or out in the real world in hunting conditions or at least outside? Inside a store the differences don't usually stand out like they do in field conditions. Where I hunt, low light usually means seeing deer or at least shooter deer, the VXII on my 30'06, which I love and have used for a very long time, is hard to see through and pick up the reticle in dusky conditions. The Ziess I have has extended that time by 15 minutes which can mean the difference between sucess and just a nice long commune with nature.

To each his own, Leupold makes a fine product but the VXII is not a Ziess. The VXIII that I use on the 7 Mag is very close though except its a 50mm objective and retails for more than the Ziess.

I have to say, I have been very very impressed with the Bushnell Elite 4200 I aquired with the Savage rifle.

Some years ago I was in a double blind with a buddy and we were waiting for the hogs to show up at the feeder. It got too dark for me to see the feeder through my Vari-x2 Leupold, so I suggested we go back to the ranchhouse for a beer. He said that there was plenty of light left and passed me his rifle with the Zeiss optics. He was right...with his Zeiss there was plenty of light left. These days I've upgraded to VX3 Leupolds, but I do wonder if the Zeiss are brighter than today's VX3s. My 30mm tube VX3 is very bright, and brighter than my 1 inch tube VX3, that's for sure.

Yes, I had certainly read that the 30mm tube passed more light, but I hadn't experienced the difference until I bought one. The buddy's Zeiss was just the 1 inch tube version. I wish I could afford (or hide the expense from the wife) a few more of the 30mm tube optics. Like many of you guys, I have what I need, but not what I now want.

lol me to i would like to have some leupold 30mm tubes but their high and just havent got one yet . its comeing soon though as i hope to get a custum hunting rifle from E.R. shaw and thats whats going on it

And speaking of hiding expenses from the wife, my brother in law just ordered a 4.5x14 Leupold with the illuminated reticle and 50mm objective. I don't know what tube diameter he got, but I think he dropped $1500 or so. If his wife (my sister) ever found out, he's a dead man. I'd love to have that scope, and I suppose I could afford it if I just HAD to have it, but that's so much money, and I don't really think it'd improve my hunting success that much. That's what I'm telling myself, so don't any of ya'll tell me different.

just to throw these two in there at you for $1150 you can get ethere the huskemaw 5-20X50 or the greybull 4-14X50 the greybull is mad by leupuld
