help me pick a new 9 mm

Your post screams g19. It is a fine 9mm, if your standard for buying guns is paying $600 for a gun and then adding $50-$100 for sights and $50-$100 to make the trigger what you want.

May I suggest you at least look at a CZ75 B SA in 9mm. It is solid ootb. It sells for $550-$600ish. It is completely different than what you love right now. The SP01 adds a rail. Might be work ordering from czcustom to get exactly what you want far a reasonable price.

CZ P07, in my experience absolutely the best 9mm I've ever had. Here is a list of 9mm I've had experience with. S&W 39, S&W M&P9, RugerLC9s, FEG 9mm, Glock 19/17/26/43, CZ P09/07, and Taurus PT111G2. The most accurate and natural to shoot for me have been both the CZ's but I just like the smaller size of the P07 best.

CZ-75D PCR or CZ P-01 if you want a light rail. The Compact, lightweight alloy version of the 75B. They are about the same size, and weight of the Glock G19 but with better ergos, and accuracy.

A Jericho, CZ75B (if you can find one) or a Browning HP (they are expensive) would be options you may seriously want to consider.

A GLOCK 23 with a 9mm conversion barrel and magazine (you may want to buy a 9mm extractor and ejector to get 100% reliability) would give you an outstanding, inexpensive dual caliber gun.

Glock are excellent guns but for me, the Jericho/ CZ75/Browning HP ergonomics is far better.

Another vote for the Glock 26. I have both a 26 and a 19 but I would opt for the 26 over the 19 since you can use a 15 round mag with an X Grip sleeve and have something very close to a 19, just with a slightly shorter barrel and a little different grip.

There are a lot of terrific 9MM pistols but based on your experiences IMO a Glock 19 would be a good way to go since you are specifying that CCW would be a possibility. I have a fair amount of 9MM pistols including my Gen 2 Glock 19 and it sets the standard for a 15 round CCW pistol due to it's size/weight, capacity, and performance.

Good luck!

With your familiarity with Glocks the 19 or 26 would be a good fit... That being said I traded my Gen 4 19 for a H&K VP9 and haven't looked back. I have nothing against Glock and will probably own one again someday, but for the price point you get a lot of pistol right out of the box... That's my sales pitch for the day. :)

If you're willing to try a CZ 75 style gun, I would try the CZ P-01. It's my daily carry and even in hot weather it's comfortable in jeans and a T-shirt. I have a full size 75 BD but when it came time to carry I got a P01 for the purpose.

380 auto since you want CC as well. If only a range gun than a Beretta 92 type big gun to shoot soft.

No need for an 9mm Luger as CCW.

Just get an 380 acp. And use ONLY FMJ (ball) ammo in the 380 auto.
The 380 acp with FMJ gets you more penetration than an 9x19 with hollow points.

See this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soNdX36P-3E&sns=em

The 380 auto ball ammo penetrated 19.6“
The 9mm Luger hollow point penetrated 17“.

380 auto has the advantage of less recoil in such light guns.

Like many others have posted before me the CZ 75 platform is a great gun. I've never had to (or been permitted to) carry a gun before so I can't put a great deal of weight behind my suggestions, but have you considered a Beretta PX4 Storm? If in doubt a Glock would likely make an excellent carry piece, I had a 17 back a couple of years ago...so rugged, so simple.

Peace,
Quartermaster

Thank you for all the replies. I decided to hold off on buying a 9mm until I get a chance to shoot a few of them. I belong to a sportsman club and quite a few guys have offered to let me shoot their 9 mm's. Also there is an indoor range close to me that rents guns to shoot.

As everyone has been saying, glock makes sense. Whatever.

Now, I will give you a different perspective. You already have a glock. So try something else.

CZ P01/PCR
Colt Commander
Sig 226
Walther PPQ
Walther P99
M&P (almost as personality-less as the Glock, but not quite)

Variety is the spice of life.

Dont go with Glock type plastik pistols in 9mm. If it must be a plastik one, speak ligth one, than you should go with an modular gun (Sig P250, Beretta Pico, and the like).

Otherwise the best option is an Beretta 92 type pistol. That is not a heavy pistol but supposedly last long, has no recoil and shoots accurate with its Walther locking lug system.
If you are a cheapo you may go for the Taurus PT92 stainless (they have almost only good reports on the internet). Even with very small hands you will have an firm 2 handed grip on it although DA you will most likely not be able to shoot the gun nor one handed.
However consider the fat grip as the price to pay for an 15 round double stack magazine. Instead having a slimmer and more ergonomic grip with an single stack 9 round magazine
A Glock type pistol is almost imposible to shoot one handed too due to the recoil of the ligth weigth gun IMHO.

Ah, no. They're not "almost impossible to shoot one handed."

Not even a big deal for small hands, my tiny hands can't hit the mag release on a 1911 without switching my grip up and one handed is no problem. For recoil sensitive individuals or those with poor form I can see it being a problem.
