Help me pick a Glock...

At the gun shows in my area a 23 would go for under $500.

I'd consider a regular 23. I have a 23C and wish I'd gotten a 23.

I'd seriously consider .40 over .357 Sig. Even if you are reloading, it is cheaper to shoot. If you aren't reloading, the disparity in cost is outrageous.

I'd tend to agree with the last few posts. The un-compensated G23 is a very good choice, it's small enough for concealed carry, but large enough to serve as a duty weapon (it's what the FBI picked a few years ago for field agents) It comed standard with the gelded 10 rounded mags, but standard capacity 13 rounders are still available but expect to pay $55 to $90.

And the .40 cal ammunition gets high marks for performance in it's lighter loadings (135 to 165 grain bullet weight)

I've owned several Glocks but the 23 is the only one I still own.

You can't go wrong with the K9 either. This is an extremely well made pistol and their customer service is outstanding. You will sacrifice 3 rounds in magazine capacity, but this is a much smaller pistol especially in the width of the frame and slide making it very slim and flat, a big plus for conceald carry. They are also extremely accurate pistols and have a trigger pull like a very well tuned double action revolver.

If possible, try to shoot each of the pistols you've listed and make your decision on which feels and shoots best.

Good Luck,

This past weekend was the first time that I got to shoot a 23C. To make it short and sweet, I didn't like it and I didn't like shooting in the lane next to it. Muzzle blast from the lane next to me normally doesn't bother me but in this case it was way too pronounced for the caliber. (Outdoor range without solid barriers between lanes.)

OTOH, it is the brand new baby of the guy I was shooting with so I praised it lavishly and I'm sure that he now thinks it's my fondest desire to own one. But, I'd do the same for any of my gun-owning friends. ;)

As far as .40 S&W vs. 9mm, I prefer the .40 in a carry gun and own three as a result. The .40 has the advantage over 9mm in every respect but one - price. As a result, my favorite range gun is a 9mm (one of the two 9's I own.) BTW, I've never experienced or seen any definitive testing to indicate that .40 is less accurate than 9mm. (And I've never seen anyone who's pride and joy wasn't a 9mm make that claim.)

Of course you now know that a .357 Mag (which is what you uncle probably loads) and a .357 Sig are two entirely different rounds. The .357 Mag is a rimmed round more commonly used in revolvers (and the occassional Desert Eagle.) The .357 Sig is a rimless .40 case necked down to a .357 bullet (nominal .357 = 9mm BTW) so you wind up with a .40 (nominal .40 = 10mm) case that fires a 9mm bullet at correspondingly higher velocities. It's the best and worst of both worlds! Primary problem is that necked rounds are fairly uncommon, generally expensive, and a PITA to reload. They may be a great round but I wouldn't have one for a gun I intended to fire frequently.

Thanks...

I just need to decide between the 4.06" barrel .40, and the 3.78" barrel .45. ;)
You've changed my mind about the compensated barrel...thanks!!!
