Help me decide HK or Sig

I sold my G22 and have saved up the money for another purchase. I decided to either add to my Sig addiction or replaced the USP Compact .40 I sold a few years ago under duress. I have read a little about the HK P30LS but have never held one. I loved the USP 40 I had and wished I had not sold it. I also love my Sigs, I carry a 229 9mm daily. I think I want to go the HK route as I've found an older USP .40 Compact. This is a quote from the ad
" it is a 22-dash serial number meaning it has the HK EXPERT barrel"
Is this a good thing or is it irrellavent. Help me decide on Sig or HK and if HK which model to look for. I'm looking to spend around $700-800 but the less the better. I know the common reply is to go to a local range and shoot them all but when you're looking at preowned guns you don't always have that timely luxury.
Thanks

Tough one. HK if you want a light weight DA/SA. Sig P320 if you want a incredable and versatile Strikerfire.
There is no wrong answere.

I'd be curious about what the heck this person means that the USP compact has an "HK EXPERT barrel"....

The USP Expert is longer than the full size USP, so is he saying the the barrel has been chopped down to fit in a compact?

It just sounds shady... or like he doesn't know what he's talking about. I would be a little concerned about that more than the age of the gun.

The USP compact is awesome... but so is the Sig. For the price, I would probably look more closely at the P320 or VP9.

I have a few USPc. Make sure the mags are hi cap. If the gun is old enough, it may have Clinton mags. Hi cap mags are not cheap for this gun. If its a older gun with night sights, the glow intensity may be very low. I have had HK do some custom work on my guns and they are outstanding. Sig is just as good so both companies have great support and even custom shop work.

Its a great size for EDC and the Sig P320 Compact is about identical in size but with one more round in 40. The P320Compact fits in my USPc leather holsters.

I think the most important question should be "What do you intend to use it for?" You already have a Sig P229 for daily carry and both guns you mentioned are pretty close in size to it. The USP (depending on the variant) is going to be more like the Sig P229 with the DA/SA trigger. While both Sig and H&K have decent DA triggers, it is not my preferred trigger type for carry. The long heavy DA trigger pull makes me tend to pull right. I know under duress, the trigger will feel like nothing and increasing the trigger pull speed will make the trigger feel much lighter. The thing is that striker fired pistols have the same consistent trigger pull from shot to shot and almost always have a lighter trigger pull than a DA trigger. I used to carry a Sig P228 but I switched to a Glock 26 (and now Kahr PM9).

If the whole second strike capability of hammer fired guns makes a big deal to you, go with the H&K. In reality, a second strike will rarely set off a bad round and will cost you a additional time.

I did have a USP and that thing was a freaking tack driver. Mine was the full size version in .40 S&W. I forgot the variant, but it was DA/SA with decock (no safety). That made it practically identical to my Sig P228, except for the placement of the decocker of course.

HK are just pure awesomeness, but their triggers suck

Sigs are just pure awesome. Their triggers are good. But it's a heavy gun.

Its a tie. So buy both.

The deal is the gun with all original goodies as new and 200 rds of mixed HP/Target ammo and 3 HK mags. $750

IMO that is a so so deal and not be in a hurry to buy it. I have seen USP Compact .40 trade ins used for sale for less than $500 at places like Summit Gun Broker or HK Specialist.

I would rather buy brand new at the $750 price knowing I was getting factory fresh pistol with lifetime warranty.

I compared both in 9 mm. The USP Compact may have the edge for a carry gun, but I recently bought a Sig P229 Enhanced Elite. The HK was lighter, easier to rack, had a bobbed hammer, and no magazine disconnect. The Sig was a bit heavier, had a magazine disconnect, a Short Reset Trigger, and night sights. I also kind of liked the looks of the beaver tail, which may actually not be so good an idea for carry.

I say Sig Sauer all the way man. I've already gone through that Sig vs HK thing. Lasted a few years. I don't even know why. Sig has always come out on top for me and always will. The only thing HK has over Sig is the weight being lighter. I don't like any factory HK trigger. Sigs factory SRT triggers are a force to be reckoned with. One of the best triggers in DA/SA if not the best out there. I could never get used to HK's triggers.

And that's no biased either. My top manufacturers are Sig and Glock. They're what I always go back and forth in between. I toss in an HK or M&P at random then just sell it.

Now with the VP9 and P320. That's a tight match. One I haven't stepped into yet.

Back to DA/SA. The P226 has been the gun I've trained with and shot the most. I conceal carry the following, P229, P226, and Glock 19. I shoot them all very well.

Can't go wrong with a Sig!
