help me decide asap

Alright here's the deal. I have a gsg 5pk pistol. Like new with box and all the goodies including a 22 rnd mag. I am hearing offers of 325 to 400 for trade. So I am looking to trade it for something ill have more fun with. The new toy will have no specified purpose as I have hom defense and ccw covered. So I guess target/ccw/hd/plinking would be the purpose. I have no extra cash to put with it so looking at straight up trade in that range. I'm gonna shop around at local shop tomorrow. Question is what should I look for? I know it depends on what the shops have but what are reliable pieces I may not have considered that would be fun to own. Reason I'm going to trade is the gsg is too heavy for one handed shooting and too small to get the second hand on comfortable. I have checked gunbroker for ideas on prices for poss trade material but its all over the place. I'm open to new and used handgun rifle or shotgun but am a handgun kind of guy but could always use another sks or even my first ak. Thanks in advance.

Hmm, Would it be possible to maybe provide some more info as to what you might be looking for? You say for plinking/hd/ccw, but maybe a little more specific.

Maybe a certain caliber you might be interested in?

As of right now, there really isn't much direction to your question. Right now I could suggest anything from a Phoenix Arms .25 Auto to a Ruger MkII or III, or even a Cimarron Blackpowder pistol.....

But I dont believe those are what you're looking for.....

BTW, You might want to check out the For Sale forums here, might help you see what's available in your price range. Heck, you may even be able to trade somebody there. Worth checking out....

That's just it there not a lot of criteria aside from reliability, ease of use and breakdown, and hold some resale trade value. The gsg was an impulse buy and although 100 percent reliable I just can't get into it. I currently own 9mm, 45 acp and colt, 357 and 223 and 7.62x39. So I guess in one of those calibers maybe a 22 as I have a stockpile of ammo and would have no 22 gun. Also would like a 10mm but that's over 400 value and not a lot of 10mm locally. I've thought of ruger semis and revolvers, taurus revolvers, smith autos. I'm pretty familiar with those and aware of app values. Also a makarov but I'm clueless on those. And was just looking for suggestions otherwise.

If you have a 1911 or a Glock, maybe a .22 conversion kit? I like being able to shoot .22 from the same platform as my carry.

I have a springfield 1911 and a glock 26. So both those are options. Also have a p226 and heard conversions are available for those. Was hoping for another complete gun though. What are the more desirable makarovs and what should I look for if choosing one. Also what price range am I likely to find an ak for.

I know you're looking for a handgun, but after all the guns I've owned my absolute go-to for plinking fun is...my HiPoint carbine.

So might I suggest you look at a carbine of some sort. HiPoint, KelTec etc.

EDIT: I see you already have a 1911. How about this?

Comes in several variants, also for Glock pistols. The basic unit starts at $349, and you add accessories from there.

I have looked and studied some of the 9mm carbines. The hi point interested me but unsure about how value would hold on one. The rugers and berettas are all out of price range and the marlin camps are kinda rare around here. So that leave kel tec and hi point. Hi points seem to have gone up at least on gunbroker. How do the hi points stack up. I had a 45 high point and n probs with it. Keep the suggestions coming.

If you're looking for a more fun plinker... Good Luck!

Other than the carbine version or maybe an AR look-a-like .22, you have one of the most fun toys you can own.

I think you NEED to figure out what you WANT before going through a bunch of different guns.

I have considered the rifle versions of these even seen their is an ak clone available. Its just the model I have doesn't allow enough room for my larfer hands. Will look at the rugers but I have heard stories of them being a pita to breakdown.

I hear ya'. That's why I went with the GSG carbine when I bought mine. If you
just want something different a buddy of mine just got the S&W M&P 15-22. he absolutely loves it. I am usually a handgunner but a little variety makes things fun. Ammo is arguably getting easier to find but still isn't getting cheaper. A .22 is very economical to shoot.

On the flip side, I bought a Ruger Vaquero in .357 that is really fun. It cost more than you mentioned but maybe you can find a used one or something similar to it.

You could always jump through all the legal hoops and put a collapsable stock on it, and a can.

The ati ak 22 looked fun. And I have a beretts stampede in 45lc and that's always fun to shoot so another cowboy gun is a def possibility if w/in price range. I had heard feeding problems with the s and w 22 ar version. Any confirmation on that.

Ruger 10/22 and trick it out with the spare cash. More aftermarket accessories and components than one can imagine and pretty darn reliable for a 22LR.

well i did it

Just left the local shop. Traded even for a nib stainless smith and wesson sw9ve with 2 15 rounders. Could have probably shopped around a little and maybe got a better deal but I'm pretty happy. The smith is an april 2010 run according to the fired brass packet. Howd I do. Traded gun for gun.

Sigmas go for less than $325 new around here. So, I would say not a bad trade but definitely not an awesome one. I think you could have sold the GSG and just bought the Sigma outright.
