The good news is the large selection of good holsters available today. I have a Sparks VM-II that works pretty well with my 3" 629. IWB seems to support and conceal better.
Chip - IIRC, the Hideout is available with a thumbreak (per Rogers' pics) or a "pull-through" snap, or open. I opted for the open top, and depend on Lous' molding and belt pressure (considerable...no comment, please ) for retention. The metal which would contact the gun on a draw is rounded on both parts, so the chances of scratches are minimal, but the snap retentions aren't necessary, IMO, unless they are mandated by some outside requirement.
How about a nice sweater vest? Button up or plain front? It is getting a bit nippy, now... Size XXL for maximum comfort? Just watch the clunk of the grips on the office chair as you settle back for some heavy duty computering.
I have carried N frame Smiths for years. The best leather I have found is the Tension Saddle by Sam Andrews. This OWB holster works great with 4 inch barrels. For my 6 inch barrel Smiths, I like Andrews Modified IPSC Saddle model. The front cut out allows the longer barrel to slide out without haveing to be lifted up to your armpit.
I am 6'2, 230, and have no trouble at all hiding these large Smith's as well as single action Rugers under a vest or shirt worn out over a tee shirt.
