Help me conceal this monster...

I've carried a 1911 with no problem, so the weight thing does not concern me. That being said...

I would really like to get a good IWB or strong side pancake holster for my 4" M28 Highway Patrolman. I have a 1 3/4" wilderness belt (Combat shooters Model). I like this gun so muh, I would like to carry it under a cover garmet (CCC vest or untucked shirt). I am not a small guy at 6'0 and 260 so it is not hard to carry a large gun and hide it.

I would really like to hear experieces from those of you that carry a large revolver and how you do it. Pros and cons and all that good stuff.

Thanks for your experiences...

El Paso Saddlery has some pancake holsters for Smith N frames.
Dillon Precision also has a hip holster that might fit your M28.
IWB holsters for N frames haven't shown up where I've been looking. I need some leather for my Smith M58, and think I'll buy a El Paso rig first.

ACP,

I have a couple of holsters for the 58. Both are from Kramer Leather. The OWB Belt Scabbard I don't have any problems with, but need a bit more clothing to conceal (or just carry openly). The other one I have is an IWB #2. The IWB puts the cylinder behind the belt and the holster loops. There is a bit of a bulge at the belt line, but not too bad. I've never had anyone notice (at least no one has mentioned it). I also have a Thomas Perfectionist (IWB design) from Kramer for a GP-100. That works very well with the GP, and I think I should have gone with that instead of the IWB #2 for the 58.

Alessi Hideout

Shown with a Model 28 and a Model 625, both 4 inch.
Conceals N frames very well.

I have a PWL pancake rig made for 4" N-frames. It has no retention strap, a reinforced holster mouth, and a tension screw for friction adjustment. I was able to carry my Mountain Gun and my Model 58 in that rig under a loose shirt without problems, even in the Tennessee summer heat.

ROGER C, YOU RASCULE :D Your earlier posts, with pics, convinced me there was room inside my 36" jeans for both me and my .45 Colt Mountain Gun. I've just finished breaking in an Alessi Hideout, and you were absolutely right - holds the gun close, gives quick access, and it is comfortable. Hide all of that with a shirt tail, and you have a winner. For OWB, an Alessi Belt Slide has an advantage over the others I've tried with this gun - just a tad more muzzle-rear rake, which brings the butt back into your side a bit more, and throws it forward far enough to eliminate all but "bend over" printing.
Thanks for your original posts - glad I found them.

I conceal 4" and 5" N frames with Bianchi holsters that look a lot like the pic that Riddle of Steel put up. Carry at 4 and 8 o'clock, they ride high and tight. Properly fitted suit coat or casual wear conceals well. Suspenders not a must but they sho do help.

I'm only 5'6, 145 armed, 30 waist.

Sam - Would those be the good old Bianchi #8?....and do you have any trouble standing up out of low-slung chairs :D

No one has yey mentioned: A good stiff gun belt is mandatory if you plan on all day carry with a gun of that size.

Any of the above mentioned holsters will work, but with a poor belt choice, it will be loose and moving around after no more than an hour.

Well,

I ordered an Alessi Hideout. Hope it gets here soon! Looking forward to carrying my new beast!

If you get one of those Speigel (sp?) boot grip it will help a lot towards hiding it. I have a friend who carries a S&W 44mag Mountain revolver in a IWB holster under untucked t-shirt and that boot grip helps a lot. At about 6' 2" and 270 pounds, he's a big boy too.

I carry...

...3" and 4" N-frames (57, 625, 629) in a PWL pancake holster. Fantastic rig; holds the butt of the gun in nice and tight and rides fairly high. Great way to conceal the big iron.

We are close in size (I'm 5'11 and 280). I sometimes carry a three inch model 629 in an IWB rig comfortably. Pancake holsters look good, but after a couple of hours the weight of the gun will want to pull the handle away from your side, not to mention the fact that when you sit down, the handle wants to catch on chair arms and car consoles.
For the big guns, IWB is the only way for me....
