Help me choose my gun outside the US part 2

To me, the Glock isn't worth $600 more than the Beretta. But considering your climate down there, would the G26 hold up better? I think I'd still go with the Beretta...for the value. They're both good guns, and you'd be happy with either.

Thanks 2ndsojourn The beretta feels really good in hand.

The owner of the store agreed to take me to test both guns so i am excited... none the less I want your opinion guys. Mostly regarding durability and reliability.

Not a fan of rotary barrels in handguns. Just seems overly complicated for something that should be simple.

Both being polymer framed guns - get the Glock. They know how to do polymer.

I have three rotary barrel handguns, 2 Beretta Cougars and one Stoeger Cougar, and they all function great and shoot flat with very good recoil absorption.

But the Beretta PX4 subcompact, unlike the full-size and compact models, does not have a rotary barrel lockup mechanism. It uses a tilt breech mechanism.

Yes... the sub compact does not have rotatin barrel.

Is there really a noticeable difference in felt recoil with the rotating barrel?

THe other thing I like about the beretta is capacity! 13 round in 9mm... maybe not a deciding factor but I like that.

I do not know if it is because of the rotary barrel mechanism or in spite of it, but all three of my Cougars shoot flat, are accurate, and manage recoil extremely well. I will say that the rotary barrel mechanism does seem to like grease, although Ernest Langdon has shot thousands of rounds out of stock PX4 compacts without relubricating.

I have heard complaints from some of the rotary barrel locking up. I have never experienced anything like that, but I do notice that when the guns start to get dry, press checks seem to require a bit more force.

It is no big deal. Field stripping and applying a bit of grease to the bushing surfaces in the slide that the barrel rotates on, the barrel locking lugs, and the tooth and sides of the central block takes only a minute or so.

My daughter has a PX4 Compact, which has the rotating barrel, and while it is impossible to isolate the cause to the rotating barrel, it is an extremely soft shooting pistol. My impression is that the rotating barrel works well in softening recoil.

But you don't seem to have that choice anyway. I don't consider the PX4 line to be unproven, just under-appreciated. I have a Glock 26 and like it, but I personally wouldn't pay $600 or so more for it than a PX4 subcompact, unless I was fiercely opposed to having a thumb safety. For me, that would be a non-issue, because with the Beretta I have the option of carrying it safety off, which given the long relatively heavy first DA trigger pull, is an option that a lot of people prefer and consider as safe as the Glock system.

Thanks guys...

They do have the beretta px4 compact, just trying to go as concealable as posible...

It does make a lot of sense that some energy is disipated with the rubbing parts that turn the barrel.

Well, I dont necesarily mean that they are unproven, but less proven :-) than the glock or beretta 92fs (which I already discarded as an option).

Not a fan of rotary barrels in handguns.

The Px4 Storm Sub-Compact does not have the rotating barrel its bigger brothers have. It has a conventional tilting barrel recoil design.

I've never heard anything bad about Beretta's rotating barrel recoil system. In fact, it supposedly does a good job absorbing recoil.

Test firing both guns will determine your choice, but for what it's worth, the PX4 Subcompact is the better deal by far. With its decocker and DA/SA trigger the PX4 is the safer, more forgiving design, and a 13+1 capacity beats 10+1 any day.

The PX4 is a proven platform. It's been around for at least a decade, and it's subcompact version for most of that time. In fact, the PX4 Subcompact has been around longer than the Gen 4 G26.

I think you'll find the PX4 SC more comfortable to hold and to shoot than the G26.

Seriusly? wo no chance of them dropping the line then?

Who knows what Beretta will do? They have not usually been all that communicative with the general public.

But Beretta has agreed to produce a new version of the PX4 compact which many have been calling the Langdon Tactical model, which apparently Beretta will call the "compact carry."

Ernest Langdon has been instrumental in developing this model and it sounds as if Beretta has been unusually responsive in getting it to market. It was shown at the recent SHOT show:

It seems a bit unlikely that Beretta would have bothered to do this if they were planning to ditch the platform.
