Help convince me to buy (or tell me I should walk away!)

My most accurate center fire handgun is a Model 14. Once S&W went to the number system they were considered +P worthy. The Model 14 was also available in a 8 3/8" barrel as well as some short runs of smaller than 6" barrels. Definitely the queen of target revolvers.

I paid substantially more for my model 14 and don't regret it one bit. It's by far the most accurate revolver I have and I'll never part with it. Next on the list is a nice model 15, I think it's the most aesthetically pleasing revolver there is. Then when I strike it rich a model 27 is next.

Driftwood Johnson, your Model 14-3 below is beautiful! Hope the OP's 14-2 is as nice.

I had to stage a picture of my Model 19-3 like yours using the original box! I
bought it in 1976 so it's about the same age as your 14-3. I have Hogue grips on it now but it's time to dig out the original wood target grips.

NateKirk, the gauntlet is thrown down, we need pictures of your new S&W!

Howdy Again

A little bit off topic, but here is my Model 19-3. I bought it brand-spanky new in 1975. First centerfire revolver I ever owned. Still have the box, papers, and all the goodies. It still wears the Goncalo Alves oversized target grips it came with.

Ah yes! My 19-3 came with those Goncalo Alves oversized target grips and also was my first revolver! I've got to dig out those original grips. I think they're in the safe.

In 1976 I also bought a Colt Series '70 Government Model and Ruger Mark I Target. All in all, the bicentennial of 1776 was a very good year for me in regard to handguns. I still have all three.

Kirk, we're still waiting for pictures! :D

The Model 14, which old timers know as the .38 Special Target Masterpiece, is among the few absolutely top target revolvers ever made. $500 is a bargain for one in good condition. In LNIB condition, they can bring prices approaching a grand. They would probably run more if S&W hadn't made so darned many of them.

I did some digging on the serial number and from what I can figure it was made in 1967. It's got a little holster wear on the side of the muzzle and the trigger guard but other than that the finish is good and the barrel as well. One of the better double action triggers I've felt; smooth and relatively light.
If I can figure it out I'll try and post a pic later

Around here, $500.00 is about the going price for a K-14, one of the finest target revolvers S&W ever made. You're going to enjoy that one.

Congratulations.

Where is North Chesterfield? I assume it's still South of the James?

Nice snag! The holster wear is a bonus in my opinion.

Here it is. Knew I would figure it out eventually...

Anyone have any holster recommendations? I want something that says "70's cop." Were there any standard holster styles back then or was it just whatever worked? I'm sure they were less tacticool than they are now:D

Depending on the condition I would say $500 is a good price. However, if condition isn't that big of an issue I would shop around.

Note: You did real well!

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

By the way, I think you did very well with that Model 14 for $500. From what I can see, it looks pristine.

:(I mentioned in an earlier post that my local pawn shop has a 14 for $349.00.

I misread the tag. It's $399.00:( They might come down to $349.00 , though, if you wave cash in front of them.

I checked it out and it seems just a bit loose for my taste, although the finish is still decent.

I do not know current selling prices anymore.
I got my 6" 14-4 several years ago in the high 300s.
It is my favorite revolver when shooting single action and shooting for groups.
