Help Choosing Rifle

what do you guys know and/or think about the quality and accuracy of the Mossberg Maverick or even the Mossberg 4x4?

Mediocre at BEST. For your price range, stick with Savage/Stevens or the Marlin X series.

Ok guys, worst case scenario I began to look into the .22 rifles such as the M&P 15-22. This is pretty much a last resort for me in the event that I end up not finding a good rifle for a good price (which I doubt). Was wondering what input you guys may have on that one as well. The reviews that I try to check out on it say that it's a good weapon. Even though various sites can be good to get the basic idea of how good a weapon is, I found from my experience that it's the reviews and ideas from the ACTUAL PEOPLE THAT OWN THEM to be the most useful and accurate. And this goes for EVERYTHING and ANYTHING that you pursue.

Also, I would like to apologize for I seem to be nagging and asking you guys a lot of newbie questions, but like I first started off saying, I'm new to this sport and I'm trying my best to learn as much as I can. So thank you all for your patience.

Unless you are planning on using this gun on human targets, please stop saying "weapon".

It's a firearm or gun. No more of a weapon than a brick is.

But anyway, you need a 22 and someone responsible to show you the basics of safe firearms handling.

You said in your original post that you wanted a rifle to shoot long range.

You do realize that the .22LR is about the worst pick for that task, dontcha?

@ mrawesome22,
Sorry for calling it a weapon, but I'm so use to referencing a firearm as a weapon, but to respond to your statement, I am not planning on using the rifle on human targets. I plan on just shooting at the range like everyone else.

@ tobnpr,
Yeah, I know that isn't the best choice of caliber. I just didn't want to discard that idea right away without any input from the guys on this forum.

I checked my local shop and they didn't have anything on the shelf fitting my budget. I'm going to keep looking and calling around, but unfortunately the next gun show isn't until November. Ugh, the wait!

Hey guys, quick question. I think I may have found the rifle that I've been looking for, but I don't know if it's a good deal. It's a Savage Axis and it comes with a Bushnell scope (don't know what model or power), and the rifle is used, but it looks to be in good condition. They are selling it for $389.99. Do you guys think that it's a good deal? Or should I pass and keep looking?

I also forgot to add...I may have seen on the tag that it said 360, which may have been a sale price. If it was, I hope that's considered a pretty good buy. I know I should have paid closer attention to the price tag, but I think that I was a little to excited once I saw the rifle. Thanks, and sorry again for all the constant replies!

When that rifle first came out, it was known as the Savage "Edge"... For whatever reason they changed it to the "Axis"..... They cost 267.00 with no scope at my local Wally world.

If you believe it's the "One", then by all means,,,, But if you can find a Savage 111, "used", for about the same or less, in good condition, get it because it's better than the "Axis"..;)

It's impossible to answer your question of value because of the optic.
It could be a $50 BSA, or a $400 Leupold.
