Hello to all.

Hi all,

I was told by a confidant of your to stop by, sign up and partake in the wonderful discussions you have here. I was also told I had to introduce myself, so without further adieu here goes.

Name’s J.P. my nickname is “Fish”, my last name is Perch, no laughing please.

Love firearms, skydiving, beautiful ladies and discussing the 2nd amendment!

Work for a Federal Law Enforcement Agency based in Southern California.

Hope to be productive here, so go easy on me…

Ola, J.P.

I am new also, having logged on only a few hours earlier.

I love to fish, hunt, and discuss the 2nd Amendment also.

And....I'm crazy about one beautiful lady in particular. (She lives next door)

I'm a boat captain. What's it like to be a Fed?

I know what you mean about the ladies!

It’s not a bad line of work actually, if you’re looking to enter the GS line of work I recommend it. Pays good, benefits are OK, and you can pick up a ample little retirement in only 25 years if you play your card right.

Where are you a boat captain at? East coast, West coast or somewhere in between?

And also, I have a question. I have been look through the different messages here and I have noticed a lot of abbreviations being used. Is that required or just inclination? And not to sound like a complete ignoramus what the heck do most of them mean?

Is there some place I can go on the web to read over them or do you guys come equipped with an owner’s manual?

Thanks for the welcome, PreserveFreedom.

Fish, I'm based in Texas, and travel around the Gulf and the Carribean quite a bit.

Welcome to both Fish and capnrik.
Fish you'll find several LEO's that post here...not all federal but all are welcome just the same. As the members come to know you they will probably say something like "present company excepted... when they refer to JBT's (jack booted thugs). ;)
For an overview of the various abbreviations you can look here, http://www.thefiringline.com/Misc/library/TFL_Primer.htm . No, they are not required. But they do cut down on typing and bandwidth.
Again welcome to you both.

I was promised a Shortycicle and I want a Shortycicle!

Fish, Capnrik,

Welcome. For the translation on abbreviations click on the link at the top of the page "Web acronyms/firearms terms". And if the one you see isn't listed there, feel free to ask. I like TFL because folks here are so well behaved compared to some other forums (thanks to the moderators for that, although I would like to believe that TFLers are just naturally inclined to take the high road and not stoop to adhominem attacks) While you are nosing around, click on "search" and look up the "lawdog files"...funny stuff and we should be due for another installment any day now (hint, hint Lawdog :) )

Sarah, that is a wonderful nickname, and reminds me of a college friend (1973) who had an AD in his holster.

Hit nothing. Nada. Missedmanytoes!

Thanks for the list, and I'll keep it handy.

Thanks for the hello's and I will Ignore the remarks from the peanut gallery if it gets too riotous with comments. Hope to be one of the good guys.

Welcome Aboard! Only one piece of advice. Watch out for FUD!!!!!!!!! Actually you will enjoy him, his life seems to be just a little further out on the edge than most of us. We have a diverse group that you will learn from and we encourage you to share what you know and what you learn with others.Take the words of Shin-Tao to heart. This is a great board and the moderators try to keep us civil because we come from all walks of life. Again, Welcome!

Welcome.

Don't feel alone. There are many Feds here. They tend to stay quiet though.

Any particular reason for the silence/lack of participation that you know of? You guys do treat them bad do ya?

Hope not…

I know of a couple of folks I work with who love the boards, they turned me on to them. They never said anything about it, but hey each to his own. I doubt I’ll be the quite one here I’m to into firearms/2nd amendment rights to do that.

Thanks for the welcome,

Fish

Hello, and welcome new folks!!!!!!!

Fish, I think that after Ruby Ridge and Waco, a lot of us out here believe that there are some folks in the federal government who aren't exactly playing with a full deck. Now, most folks don't think these are in any way a majority, but it's the old "bad apple" cliche...

Sadly, Good Guys suffer a lot of nasty comments because of the bad apples.

I believe I'm correct in saying that many of us believe that the various agencies are having to enforce bad laws, stupid laws, and unconstitutional laws. It's not just about guns and RKBA, either. I'll add in EPA and the USF&WS, also, for example.

I've watched the growth of federal power and intrusiveness since LBJ's "Great Society" programs developed their constituencies. I didn't like it then; I don't like it now.

While I don't see the form or format happening in this country anytime in my probable remaining years--20 or so?--I was in the Dachau Prison Camp Memorial a couple of weeks ago. That's the nasty form of institutionalized political correctness and total federal power. And, frankly, total federal power is where we seem to be headed in this country.

I bring all this up to point out some sensitivity on the part of some folks here, to perceived maltreatments and true, real maltreatments by some government employees. Occasionally, it spills over. Howsomever, "If the shoe don't fit, don't wear it." :)

Like Rich sez, attack ideas, not people. We take the High Road in our discussions. Well, we try; we try. (Sometimes, we're very trying.)

Regards, Art

You are most accurate when you mention such catastrophes as Ruby Ridge or Waco, but I believe you can actually fault the individual agency for the debacle them selves. See the FBI, BATF and DEA see themselves as an all inclusive law enforcement agency, they want to do it all and the truth of the matter is no one can be that.

The US Marshals Service is the oldest law enforcement agency in the US, during our existence we have stayed focused on our intended goal. We do not branch out into every aspect of law we can lawfully justify; we simply do what we were trained to do. I think this might have something to do with the series of very distressing mistakes we have seen in the recent past. And yes sir, they are most unjustifiable.
