Hello to all! Also Which gun should I get?

I'm trying to figure out how a heavier than normal 9mm round can outperform or even equal a standard .45 load. The ballistic tables tell me they can't.
True, but the .45 in a standard load is comparable to a 9mm standard load with a typical bullet weight since the 9mm has 93% of the muzzle energy of the .45.

Also, the original poster may join Customs. Show me an agent taking a 200yd shot on the job and I'll show you the same individual unemployed that afternoon. I don't see why that's relevant.
Just go to an outdoor range where Customs agents train. Surely you'll find a 200 yard target, and I'll bet some are seeing just what they can do with their pistols.

If somebody's after you with an iron sight rifle from a couple of hundred yards away, you SHOULD know how to discourage him at that range with your sidearm.

One of the reasons handgun marksmanship isn't always very good among those whose duty it is to carry them is because they don't train at longer ranges. If you can consistently hit the 10" circle at 75 yards, you may become a legend at 15 yards.

That's why it's relevant.

point taken. ;) I would think taking cover is a much better option that popping off a 9mm at 200 yds. I just hope that they don't hang someone out to dry w/ only a pistol. The should be a rifle (or several) nearby.

Agreed, but the 200 yard pistol shot is for training to build confidence and accuracy -- not use against a live target unless there's no better option -- like calling in air support....

A big problem with pistol marksmanship is the short sight radius they have. There's nothing that can be done about it except practice to learn what the sights are really indicating. Almost anybody can catch on to aiming 3-4 feet high at 200 yards, but almost nobody can use the relatively crude sights on a pistol to get the right azimuth at longer distances.

BTW, I think the trial of the killer of two Border Patrol agents in south Texas recently concluded. I think he used a rifle, but they only had pistols....

How much does a 200gr .45ACP drop at 200 yards? I never shot .45ACP at 200 yards, 100 yes but that for fun. At 100 yards I had to lob it into the target. After 50 yards you can actually see the .45ACP with the naked eyes.

Anyway, if you're going past 20 yards use a rifle.

hahaha. Around six feet. That is one big drop. Maybe I should go to the range and have some fun at 200 yards with my Glock 30.

Our club only has a 100yd range. Saturday I'm taking my 9mm & .45. We're going to have an UNscientific test. I know almost all shots at a live target are under 10 yds But I want to see haw this pans out. I'm prety good out to 25yds w/ my .45 (5" bbl)
only about 12-15 w/ 9mm (3 1/2" bbl). I'll post the results later.

I'm looking forward to your results! Just for fun, maybe you can shoot 50-100 rounds at 100 yards AFTER you start hitting the target. Then shoot your normal routines at 25 and 12-15 yards. The training theory is that you'll be a much better shot at the close ranges after you merely learn to hit the target at extended ones. Another theory is that just trying to hit the extended range target will help your shorter range shooting -- it's just not as much fun.
