Heavy 9mm Defensive Rnds?

I'm typically a "heavier is better" proponent.

However, I prefer 124s in 9mm.

147s, as mentioned, were designed for sub gun use.

A neat heavier load that might be worth checking out is Triton Hi-Vel 135gr +P @ 1200 FPS. Triton now uses a variation on the Hornady XTP bullet for their Hi-Vel line, which ought to be a darn good balance of penetration & expansion with the heavier bullet at high speed. Assuming it is accurate and a reliable feeder it should be a great all-around load.

Personal preference is Winchester SXT 127gr +P+. 100% reliable, almost zero flash and extremely accurate from my CZ-75B. $15/50 from Botach Tactical.

Castle,
I have wondered about the Ranger +P+ sounds promising....but have heard questionable things about Botach....whats your experience been?
Shoot well

What I have found is that Botach is inefficient about getting your order processed... you need to call them and make sure they have everything in order until you get your confirmation. They don't check their e-mail so don't bother with it. That said, total time to get my order was less than a week.

The ammo they deliver is slightly different from what is pictured on the web site (but they tell you that when you place the order). The full description is:

Q4280
9mm Luger +P+
127 gr. SXT
(Non-Lubalox)

The cartridges consist of a copper-jacketed bullet with a very deep hollow point and 6 scoring marks on the end in a nickel-plated case with sealed primers. The headstamp is "WCC +P+" and they come in a black-and-white Winchester box, not the colorful "RANGER LAW ENFORCEMENT AMMUNITION" package. So I guess I don't know if this is the absolute coolest ammo Winchester makes or not  , but for what it's worth it does have a warning that reads, "... designed for use by law enforcement agencies only in modern pistols."

More to the point, it functioned very well in my pistol and wasn't ludicrously expensive so I'm happy with it.

CastleBravo,

Those rangers definately have my attention, do you have any idea how well they penetrate and any chrono data on them?

Thanks
