Hearing Protection

I usually wear the non disposable ear plugs. I'm not yet 26 and I damaged my hearing years ago when I thought only sissies wore protection. I have a touch of tinnitus in my right ear (thanks mostly to test firing a .357 between two metal buildings). Not wearing protection is very stupid. I probably should wear muffs on top of my plugs more than I do.

I wear electronics alone cant handle anything stuck in my ears,I mostley shoot out doors in my back yard range.I do shoot IDPA a couple times a month in doors and cant wait to be shooting out doors again. And yes the constant ringing does suck.

I use 32dB plugs with Peltor Tactical 29dB electronic muffs. On higher settings I can still hear normal/quiet speech and even indoor rifle ranges dont bother me at all.

I would strongly argue AGAINST those. They are only 22db reduction.

I have ringing in my ears right now as I type this because the room is quiet.
It's no fun and it makes all conversations a PITA as I can't make out anyone
if more than one person is speaking or if there is music and speach. Put a
loud computer fan against each ear for a couple hours and see how you like it. Now imagine that 24/7 for the rest of your life. I don't have to imagine anymore.

ONLY buy 33 DB muffs. If you want electronic only Pro-Ears has that rating, but they cost $$. Much cheaper than hearing aids. Indoor shooting 33 db muffs and plugs.

Foam Plugs - Inexpensive and throw away, in addition to Quality Ears....

Don't make the mistake I made years ago, when I was "invincible" and did a lot of shooting without any protection.

Now both my ears ring like a telephone..............

Bottom line is the higher the NRR, the better the noise reduction. I have the highest rated electronic muffs (ProMag Gold), but they're too bulky for rifle shooting. So I wear my other electronic muffs and milspec plugs when shooting lesser firearms. I normally put these on in the parking lot if there are other shooters present.

I've had Silenzio Magnums (29dB NRR) for about 25 years and wouldn't go lower than that. Look for higher. I've doubled up with plugs also for the last 2 decades. Don't wait til you get like me with constant tinnitus and needing to tick off everyone in your living room because you need the TV up louder than normal.

I put the Howard Leight link in my favorites link.

I have only been using muffs. Even at 57 I am only on the verge of hearing reduction, but my mother has hearing aids and I might be prone to problems.

At the last gun show I got some custom made molded ear plugs.
They are rated 30db and I wear muffs indoors (adds another 5).
Works very well and (also important) very comfortable.

Made alot of home made cannons when I was young, should have made homemade ear plugs to go with them. Now if the dang riinging would just go away all would be right in the world.
