I'm having to deal with my share of weird people lately. Maybe I'll just "hole up" for a while. This is the latest. Friday afternoon I went to my barber for my regular, "every three weeks" haircut. I like to do it, in spite of having to travel downtown. My barber is a shooter and in the morning he is going dove hunting down in the country where we both grew up. But could I get a good haircut and some fine conversation regarding firearms? Hell no! My barber had to tell me about his first customer of the day. He was a young guy, about 35 years of age. He had a fine Sig/Sauer pistol with him that he was going to take to a police sub-station and turn in to be destroyed. He stated solemnly, "It is the right thing to do". He actually believed that this fine pistol was sure to be destroyed! Some LEO has that pistol on his nightstand or in a backup holster at this very moment, and I don't blame him one bit! My barber tried to trade the poor misguided fellow out of the pistol, but his mind was made up. The pistol was going to the police station. The barber tried logic on the guy. "What if someone breaks into your house to molest your wife and children tonight"? The man replied that the chances of that actually happening to his house were slim and he was willing to take the chance, because he was "doing the right thing".
I couldn't help wondering just who had convinced this guy that the thing to do was to turn his pistol in VOLUNTARILY.
Bah!!!
