HD shotgun placement

Where do you keep your H.D. shotgun?
I keep mine[590] in the safe,which I know doesn't make much sense for H.D.
I have a .45 in my nightstand,which nobody knows is there[unless nosy].
I was thinking of mounting a scabbard to the side of the dresser or along the bed rail/behind headboard.
Any suggestions?

In the safe when no one's home, in several hidey holes in the house when we are home. The shotguns (yes, more than one) are placed so no BGs can get between either of us and a long gun, if somehow the BGs get past the fences, the dogs and into the house without us knowing they are there.

Everything gets locked up when I leave the house. That means I need easy access when I get home. I bought an inexpensive steel cabinet and bolted it to the wall next to my bed. When I get home my M&P45 goes into the drawer next to my bed and my keys stay in the cabinet lock that way I remember to lock everything up when I leave.

Put 1000 rounds through the CD to break it in real good and check for functioning and use it with a good 2 3/4 0 or 1 buck.

During the daytime:
.40 cal or 9mm pistol concealed in IWB holster on me at all times.
When we are sleeping:
Loaded .40 cal pistol in nightstand next to the bed.
Loaded .38 in nightstand on wife's side of the bed
Loaded Mossberg 590 in unlocked & open gun safe inside walk-in closet.
When we leave the house
.40 cal or 9mm pistol concealed in IWB holster on me at all times
ALL other guns are locked in gun safe and burglar alarm is set

My shotgun sits about 10 ft from the bed in the corner of my bedroom, with my Beretta 9mm right next to me on the nightstand.

One option, depending on your situation...

Step inside your closet.

Turn around.

Look up.

I've mounted a couple of those foam covered pegs above the inside of the closet door, and a Remington shotgun fits nicely on those pegs. Rapid enough access for most home defense situations.

If you have kids, forget it. Use one of the keypad-access in-wall shotgun vaults.

No gun I know needs 1000 rounds to "break it in"....if it does, then it wasn't worth buying in the first place

While 1,000 rounds is not required for break in (no break in is really needed) but that is only 10 cheap bricks of ammo and would likely be enuff to insire the user is confident in the guns ability to perform.
As a redneck trying to help regular joes, I suggest a few bricks of the light loads followed by a few 15 round boxes of cheap slugs to maximize POA/POI coordination and then a few 15 count 00 buck to learn how to aim them and note the pattern in your gun as well as get used to the recoil of full power loads...

IMO, the best place for a HD shotgun is under the bed on the floor covered with a newspaper. For some reason, no one looks under a newspaper. I have been to many home burglaries and have noticed that articles covered with newspaper or an old blanket never seem to be bothered. The gun is ready for use without any noise or pulling out of the mattress.

grrr! I would love to put my 590 there, but my g/f is just too short to reach it in a hurry. It currently resides in the walk in closet on the chest-high shelf, unlocked, with 4 in the tube.

Most of my guns are in the Safe But
When I am dressed Sig226 .357Sig Rt hip OWB ans S&W 340 PD LF pocket in a Uncle Mikes pocket holster.
In Bed Sig on Headboard, 340 PD Top drawer of my nightstand, Streamlight Stinger DS LED light in headboard.
Wife's side 1911
Behind bedroom Door Mossberg 500.

Away from home Wear Sig and Smith put others away set alarm

Long trips as well as carry guns, 1911 added to car Mini 14 or mossburg in trunk. Plus spare ammo for all

Thanks for all the interesting suggestions.
I like the old blanket/newspaper one.
I think the overall best bet is the inside of the closet over the door.
Both of use are about the same height.
Out of sight and out of reach, meets my requirements.

Sadly I wont be able to afix the bayonet[too long]
Just kidding!!!!!!!:D
