Have you reached 1,000,000 rounds?

My wife would probably think I have reached it, but no I haven't. Most people will probably never see that much shooting in their lives.

But now I have a goal. A man's got to have a goal in life. :D

Many years ago we used to have an annual allotment of ammo for training. If any was turned back in then your allotment for the following year was reduced. I spent several days on the range a couple of times a year with the other gunners in the battalion feeding ammo through M60's and M2's as fast as we could. Many times we would be sitting on a stool with the gun on the tripod just swinging it back and forth between our knees. Assuming an average of a half hour of shooting time for every hour spent on the range, at 600 RPM that works out to about 18,000 rounds per hour, at least 100,000 per day. I wouldn't be surprised if I shot up 10 million rounds.

Since then, I've probably averaged at least 1,000 per month (that I had to buy - not Uncle Sam!) for the past 40 years, that works out to about 500,000.

I may have fired 100,000 rounds in my forty years of shooting.
I remember getting into it with a guy on another forum, who claimed he shot something like 25,000 rounds a year, for thirty years running, and had never had a mechanical malfunction of any kind, with any of his weapons. That's when I started thinking about how many rounds I'd ever fired, and while I may have topped 5,000 per year, two or three times, there were plenty of years that I didn't shoot 100 (and probably still had a malfunction ;)).

Todd Jarrett ..."“I had a gun in my hand for two hours every day for 10 years to develop my skill level. Now it’s not so much practice, but more of a maintenance thing. I wasted the first million rounds just learning how to shoot.”

In 2001 he estimated 1.7 million rounds in practice..so at this point he must be on his way to 3 million rounds.

If you count rounds fired in Video Games I am way passed 1,000,000 rounds. :D

In real life I am probably at about 5,000-6,000 rounds fired, maybe more.

Handheld weapons? Probably not. Been shooting since around 1960 in earnest, but lots of that was off a tripod or bipod. But as others said, now I have a goal to "shoot for". Uh..... Sorry about that.

No - but - I really don't want to think about how many cigarettes I've gone through in the last 45 years....
or beer for that matter..
or $20 bills I've stuffed into slot machines...

Giving up smoking drinking and gambling and concentrating on shooting is why it was comparatively easy for me to pass the million mark a few times. I can buy a lot of ammo for what I used to drop in a night at the local burp and slurp and I cringe to think how much I dropped on cigars, pipe tobacco and pipes before I quit.

That's a really big number. I'm 55 years old, and started shooting under my dad's supervision when I was 5.

I would have had to shoot 20,000 rounds a year since then to reach a million at this point, year in and year out.

Not many people do that level of shooting, that consistently. I'm realistically at 60-75k, since there were a few years where I put my guns down.
