Have you heard of a new law like this?

There persistent rumors and myths about the VA and PTSD. i know a few dozen vets with PTSD; none have ever been queried about gun ownership by anyone in the VA.

Different area VA facilities have different priorities. I know several young men who grew up with my children that served in both theaters who have been told they cannot posses firearms, swords, bows ,or any other types of weapons while receiving treatment at the Asheville N.C. hospital. 2 of them said they were not told this in Missouri when they went to the VA there. Law, rule Pre. order or what I don't know but at least in Asheville N.C. they are saying it.

Yes, this is scary stuff. More and more people will refuse to seek treatment for mental or emotional problems. Or, if they do seek treatment, those that can afford it will pay someone under the table for those services.

But it is almost a given now that people are screened before, or just after, separation or retirement for service related disabilities. Even if they are given a 0% rating for something it then provides an avenue for treatment down the road if the service related condition degenerates over time.

Oh, we had a post deployment screening .... but it was understood that if you failed the hearing test, you'd be "non-promotable" .... I watched the guy before me, and did what he did ..... they found no hearing loss .....

I need to have my hearing checked again. I likely need hearing aids. If I go through my insurance it will cost me thousands of dollars I do not have. If I go to the VA it would likely be affordable. Now the question is, do I want to subject myself to the possibility of being completely reevaluated? Sounds like it might be an unacceptable risk, at this point.

I likely "need" hearing aids as well ...... don't want them, if they come from an entity that can not possibly pay it's bills ...... if I don't have them, I'll never miss them..... alway keeping mind that TANSTAAFL- if they give you something, they can eventually ask for something, or stop giving. I gave my service, got a paycheck. I'm done with them.

Generations of vets in this country fought in much worse conditions than I did, for much longer ..... until the late 20th century, none of them "needed" much of anything. That Entitlement Syndrome has positively ruined the Country, IMO. "Need" is a bottomless pit which will never be filled ...... attempting to do so has bankrupted the country. I will not contribute to the debacle, if I can help it. Thus far, I can.
